Interesting reading for those with dairy intolerances

I'm currently trying to pin down what ds is reacting too. He's OK with goats milk products, cows milk live yoghurt and (I think) cows milk butter with lactic acid added to it. We've been using a no lactose cows milk, which he seemed OK with (it has some lactose in it), but when we tried a low lactose cows milk, he got terrible diahorrea and stomach pains.

Anyway, in my search for what is actually in milk, I've just found this article, which makes interesting reading. I think I'll have to have a go at reading it without ds on my lap though, as it's heavy going!

Thank you, interesting. Three of us (me, Ds 1 and 3) are lactose (?) intolerant, but certainly for myself I know I still feel ill even after I use DS3's lactose free formula on cereal. So- it could be a casein intolerance? Hmm. Cheese is the worst thing for me, my mouth ulcerates on contact.

Years ago, I read about a hypothetical link between casein and ASD. DS1 has Aspergers, I had not unlike Aspergers symptoms when I was a child and before I came off milk. I wonder......

interesting but I think we'll just have to avoid everything. He definitely reacts to whey as well as milk but can tolerate low fat margarine, he's peculiar . Peachyclair have you tried lactase? We haven't found it any use but wondered if it does help anyone.

We've been through all manners of paeeds / dieticians but nobody ever mentioned it to us, which I took as a hint. Does anyone know if it's any good?

Hi there
My son is lactose intolerant, but we are still waiting to see a dietician about it (bit of a let down with the doctors and health visitors).
we are having problems with his temper, has anyone else had behavior problems with their children, or should I put it down to his age?
Help!!

hi miniver, my friends' ds1 is on the autistic spectrum and his behaviour improved drastically on a cow's milk-free and gluten-free diet.

I hope you have a good dietitian. Ours haven't been much help so far, seem to know less than us about food intolerances, and we've only read a few books - I would recommend this one and I know other people have also found this useful.

hth a little

dietician's have never been any use to us, either.
Lactase keeps turning up on pages written by lactose intolerant people e.g.

ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/stevecarper/uknews.htm

which I found by reading laura's link The other interesting thing on that page is that it says that the "colic" relief drops that so many people find effective are actually lactase. So maybe "colic" is undiagnosed lactose intolerance?
