hi first time i have posted here but just looking for advice. my DD (17) has multiple severe allergies and carries epipens. at her recent appt they have talked about starting desensitisation for dust mites and/or cats/dogs. before now this hasn't been possible because of uncontrolled severe asthma. she also has eczema, allergic rhinitis and reflux if its any help. her animal allergies arew lifethreatening and i was wondering if it is too risky as she has been in ICU due to being in someones house here a dog had been.

if anyone has been through treatment for any allergen but specifically dust mite and animal allergies i would be very grateful to hear from you.. what type of treatment did you have? where did you have it? did it work and did you have any severe allergies? how long did it take. and di you go private or have it on the NHS. any info would be appreciated thanks.

Thanks, when you are having treatment do you have to stop taking antihistamines, because DD takes them everyday. Also do you know if there is a limit to how many allergens you can be desensitised to. If you don't mind me asking also what hospital did you have treatment at. thanks for the help.

Cheers. We're not too far from Queens so will ask about them as both Northern General in Sheffield and Leeds have very long (over 2 yrs) NHS waiting lists and i dont know if i can afford to go private (although i would do anything to even cross one allergen off of the list.)

Glad about the antihistamines as shes on a large dose of cetirizine daily.
thanks agains

wow such as short waiting list definitely will ask allergist. we are hoping or an improvement in quality of life as she seems to live in hospital every other month. It been along time coming as they first discussed desensitisation 5 years ago but her asthma has just been so bad. fingers crossed.

Good luck on finishing your treatment and do you know the success rates is it a 100% successful.

We got a referral, easy enough to get the con to agree but it had to be agreed by the board as out of area, and the letter for an appt next week to see dr drewe. the allergy nurse has rung (lisa?? i think she was called). but since then my DD has had an overnight stay in hospital for her allergies so just waiting hopefully really. DD is really looking forward and if they say no she will be really disappointed.

hope you have had a good time and thanks again.

just got back thanks. DD is very upset as they wont consider her yet because of her asthma, its just too bad at the minute she's been on oral steriods for the last 6 months for 20 to 70 mg but we cant get any lower otherwise she ends up in hospital. 10 addmissions in past year.

however on the up side they are going to refer her to a chest physican in london to try to get the asthma stable then do desensitisation. they have started her on xolair- as well as everything she could keep a pharmist in a job on her own.

Hope your DD keeps improving GOSH are good DD was under them as a baby for a different reason.

I know they helping but DD doesn't see it that way at the minute shes really disappointed, didn't she didn't come out of her room last night when we got back. think she just fed up with everything as sith form have been funny with her the last 2 months because of her attendance although she still managed amazing AS results 3 As and a C.
