Hi,
My 11mth old has had severe eczema since she was 2 mths old.She has an egg allergy which was detected when i gave her some scrambled egg and 4 hours later she developed intense itching and wheals over her whole body. She is still being breastfed. Her eczema has become alot worse and i really want to get her allergy tested(rast test) as don't know what foods are making it worse!Does anyone know of anywhere in London i can get her allergy tested at a reasonable cost?!

This clinic charges £120

He's a gp not an NHS consultant but does seem to know what he's on about - its a good site to read about allergy and allergy testing. No personal experience of him but it will give you something to compare with.

Allergy uk's helpline www.allergyuk.org/auk_helplines.html
would tell you wehre the nearest NHS clinic. For eczema the problem may be intolerance rather than allergy and its more difficult to test for that. Good luck. My son was much better after starting on probiotics (live yoghurt or health food store if you need dairy free ones), you may want to try them first.

Hi,
Not sure about allergy testing in London-My daughter has a peanut allergy, we discovered it when she was about 15 months, very scary thing allergies, we got an appointment through from her local GP, who then sent us to Addenbrookes, they tested her for everything but only found she was allergic to Peanuts, she also has Eczema, Hayfever, Asthma, bless her the eczema was worse as a baby but seems to have got better as she has got older!!!!

We now have to have the pressure of carrying a Epipen around with us and Piriton incase of an allergic reaction!!!!

We got ds tested by an allergy consultant at St Thomas's in Sutton. Costs around 100 pounds. I would avoid any clinic that is not a proper hospital tbh.

Hi,
My 17mth old son is lactose intolerant but we are still waiting to see a specialist about it. His behaviour is getting really bad and he is having quite bad tantrums. Has anyone else had these sorts of problems or should I put it down to his age?

tatt · 28/08/2005 07:14

miniver it's probably their age as every child I know has had tantrums at some stage. If he doesn't have any problem with fish it might be worth upping the amount of oily fish he has. Also if you work like mad on speech the tantrums sometimes improve when they are better able to communicate.

miniver - does he have any of the "dirty dozen" (google for this) in his food. My ds was as high as a kite for a month until I worked out that the crackers which he could eat (limited range as has egg allergy) also contained MSG (E621 I think).
