we have a huge decision to make over this, whether to let 10yo DD go to PGL next year in France - not very easy to go fetch her if she is ill because they make a mistake!!

would you/have you sent your DC on trips like this?

any experience good or bad welcome, together with any tips on how to tackle this - school are pressing us to make a decision before end of term on Friday!

I have NO experience at all of holidays/sourcing GF abroad either which does not help! she went on a UK trip this year but then I could recommend brands to the caterers, and there was no language barrier to consider so she was able to ask questions and check things herself

worrying about it is making me feel ill!!

I thought PGL staff were all English speaking, as it's a English organisation? In your shoes I'd contact PGL directly to check though.

I looked at at PGL near Paris for DD1 and decided against it because the reviews I found of it weren't very encouraging (food awful, for one). Is that where your DD's class is going?

was not sure whether ALL staff including the chefs would be english??

need to know that nothing of what is relayed to the teachers/PGL staff is lost in translation, and DD needs to be able to ask questions herslef as she will not be able to read labels etc or recognise "safe" brands

where did you find the reviews?

Hmm yes the chefs could well be French...

The reviews I read were on tripadvisor for the Paris site itself, rather than PGL as an organization so might not be relevant to you if your DD is not going there.

Does your DD want to go? Could you give her a written document in French giving details of her condition including consequences if she eats something she shouldn't (I could help with that if you need it)

translation cards are available from the coeliac society and I have emailed PGL now to ask for info on their catering

she DOES want to go, but is very worried about the food side of things, and is already a skinny thing so she cannot afford to eat not a lot for a week!
