I’m sorry you’re struggling OP.

In terms of urgent help- call the Samaritans. Someone to talk to can really help you in the short term.

Longer term- look for local AA groups, speak to your GP to seek help.

Hi OP,

I'm sorry to hear you are having such an awful time.

You could go to an AA meeting. People there are totally non judgemental and welcoming. People arriving upset, confused and at the beginning of their journey is totally normal. Newcomers are always really welcomed and supported. Other alcoholics know how awful you feel right now, and also help you see the other side! This too shall pass.

There are other support groups around that you could search for (e.g. smart recovery) and I am sure you would also find support and understanding there. AA is the only one I have experience with.

Your town/city might have a drug and alcohol service you could self refer to, or ask to be referred by your doctor. They might be able offer counselling or group support.

Please be very careful if you feel physically dependent on alcohol not to stop cold turkey as this can cause seizures.

You are not alone. There is a way through and a life without alcohol. It might take a few goes to find out what works for you.

How much are you drinking?

Why?

There will be trauma there, this isnt your fault.

You deserve help, reach out

Rocknrollstar · 16/05/2026 01:30

Go to your GP. There will be a local charity that works with addicts. You will probably need medication - potassium - to deal with withdrawal symptoms.

NedsAtomicWheelieBin · 16/05/2026 01:33

Look up Rethink Drink. They help you cut down with meds in a managed way.

LadyWiddiothethird · 16/05/2026 01:34

Call the AA helpline. Also there are literally hundreds of meetings on Zoom.I have been a member of AA since I stopped drinking 23 years ago, there is no other place that will offer you all the support you need.

summitfever · 16/05/2026 01:49

Local alcohol and drug peer support groups get the best feedback. Sometimes council sometimes charity funded. You can get medical detox from the doc to help wean off

ApolloandDaphne · 16/05/2026 01:51

Your GP can point you in the right direction.

ILombardiallaPrimaCrociata · 16/05/2026 01:53

What have you already tried - and do you know why those strategies did not work for you?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/05/2026 08:47

If you want to speak to someone now, or any time, AA have 24/7 helpline

0800 917 7650

It’s run by people who have been in exactly your position now.

You just need to make that first call.
Why not do it now?

Leavesandthings · 16/05/2026 09:17

I didn't know AA had a helpline but I concur that would be a good place to start. Just say it out loud to someone x
