I’ve been out today and had far too much to drink.
Have woken up and my heart rate is 140bpm and I’m on verge of a panic attack.
Please chat to me to calm me down and distract me. Honestly thinking alcohol is just not worth this. It has happened before.

Take some slow deep breaths, you’re going to be ok.
Sending a handhold.

Go and run your face in cold water - submerge into sink for 30 seconds - stops panic attacks quickly.

Thank you, heart rate down a bit but still 110. Difficult to distract yourself when heart is racing! Trying to distract myself with reading threads on here! Might be best for me to read the ones on stopping drinking ;-)

My watch has buzzed to praise me for my great workout and told me to keep going!

Peppermint tea if you've got it or cold water and sit up. Stand near an open window for the cool air and concentrate on your breathing x

This. Try not to worry, this is a reaction to alcohol that is not a true reflection of reality. You can think about it in the morning. For now, douse your face, do some stretches, and go back to bed and listen to an easy podcast. (I've been enjoying Strange but True Crime on BBC iPlayer - interesting but not deep!)

Thank you all xx I managed to get back to sleep. Woke up a couple of times and it was at 110-120bpm so had come down. Not sure if it was the excessive alcohol (when I say excessive, I probably drank one bottle of wine, a bottle and a half tops! But that’s excessive for me!) or the 1,000 calories I ate when I got home!

I don’t think I deserved to feel that way after 1.5 bottles of wine. I’ve got friends who regularly drink 2-3 bottles of wine when out!!

Last night I was seriously thinking I need to give up drinking entirely if it’s going to do that to my heart :(

I think our bodies are unable to tolerate alcohol in the same way as we age. Prior to getting HRT I had a nightmare every time I had just a small amount to drink. Hormones were making my heart race already. Go gor a walk and enjoy a nice cuppa and a film.x

That’s interesting. Do you find the HRT has made you tolerate alcohol again? I am perimenopausal and have been talking to the doctor about HRT. She’s giving me a blood test to test my hormone levels. I’d never linked alcohol tolerance with menopause though.
