I know I have to do this and today is only day one but I just can’t see a positive at the moment.
Drinking was how we had fun, how we unwound and was all we did.
We are doing this together Dh and I but I’m a bit scared he’s mentally stronger than me.

Tell me life can be fun and we can be happy without drinking.

I have just turned 42 and started drinking 24 years ago and it’s been a problem from the start.

I’m you but about a year ahead!
I didn’t get any of the benefits people talk about upthread - my hair, skin, sleep and energy levels are all the same.
i do have much more clarity in the mornings which is amazing and I now don’t like the feeling of walking up sluggish.

My stomach is flatter - I almost have lower visible abs which disappear completely with one pint. I just sort of swell.
I have the satisfaction of knowing I’m giving myself the chance of good aging - alcohol outcomes (as you have said) are shitty long term. Poor memory, dementia, cancer.
I also can’t have HRT, so I’m throwing myself into a good peri and menopause by natural methods.

(also, you don’t need to be dry, just under control. One day at a time)
