I'm hoping to start naltrexone next week, I'm nervous but excited to get started. Anyone else on the journey and wants to share?

I’ve got the blood test to send off but I’m worried I’ll fail it as have been drinking a lot…

I am in the UK, yes. I found a lovely doctor up in Newcastle. I’m nowhere near there, but could do a combination of phone/email consultations. I’ll send you a PM with her details @ALM2207
I was a bit like you, trying to get my drinking under control for years. I know it doesn’t work for everyone, but honestly for me it’s been life changing.

Would you mind sharing it with me as well? Been lurking for a while and not yet found the courage or the cash to take the plunge/ needing less of one might help me actually do this

what initial side effects have people had on this? I felt very stoned both times I took it. Some mild visual disturbances, colours seemed brighter etc. But both nights I slept like a log and with quite vivid dreams. First time I took it, I probably drunk the same/maybe even more than normal. But yesterday I had maybe 5-6 drinks and came home by 6.30 which is very unusual. I was in bed by 8. Quite refreshing to be up at 7 on a Sunday and no hangover. Quietly hopeful that the side effects will reduce and the benefits carry on.

Has anybody noticed any appetite changes?

I felt really spacey when I first started taking the Naltrexone, and I was taking a tiny dose, as I was so worried about the side effects (a quarter of tablet to start with), I found that dissipated quite quickly after a few tablets though.

Yes my sleep was better too, I wasn't sure if that was because I was just drinking less though?

I hadn't thought about my appetite, but I've definitely lost weight, without even trying- about 11 pounds just came off, I couldn't believe it!

Could I ask what dose everyone has been prescribed/is taking?

I worked up to one tablet (so 50mg) on days I was drinking, but built up to that dose over a few weeks.

Can I ask how much they cost? I'd be a bit nervous about ordering online but it's obviously worked fine for you?

I paid £140 for 20 strips of tablets which is 200 pills. In the uk the price is around £3 a pill so very much cheaper. The drugs are the real deal and they ship globally. My sister is using them with me and she’s doing BRILLIANTLY on them and is taking just half a pill a time. She’s now already naturally stopping after 3 drinks and swapping to tea and that’s amazing for her. So she’s down to 18 -20 units a week from 40 already and it’s only been two weeks. But tbh I’ve always struggled a bit with impulse control as I’m bipolar/adhd but it’s definitely helping me too. She’s just had a much quicker and more extreme result. I’m very happy with how things are going anyway

That sounds great - well done to you and your sister ❤

And just for proof, these are the strips that I received.

@SnowShapes7 yeah maybe it's like losing weight. If the general trend is downwards, we are winning. And maintaining that reduced amount is half the battle, not getting complacent etc.

Coming late to this thread but the journalist Katie Herzog documented her experiences with this approach in Drink Your Way Sober https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drink-Your-Way-Sober-Science-Based-ebook/dp/B0CXY43RTG

I read the book when a colleague started on the method and was surprised it isn’t more widely used or available on the NHS when the standard approach of AA referral has such a low success rate and the knock on costs of chronic drinking are so high. He had to pay, he had also had the brush off from a GP and a follow up visit resulted in a leaflet for AA. There was no discussion of the existence of drugs such as Naltrexone.

The book doesn’t claim to be the definitive guide but for anyone starting Naltrexone or having a friend starting the programme its quite helpful to understanding.

Are there any issues with getting prescription drugs through customs?

No, it’s guaranteed delivery. My dad has been using these for a few years since he lived in Turkey and India where is very common to buy your drugs from a chemist instead of seeing a dr. You can use that link and email them and ask any questions you want. The got who Rona’s it is lovely and very helpful. For me the most complicated bit was setting up revolut but he even talked me through that as well. Very efficient, very quick and I’m delighted. I’ve since stocked up on antibiotics as I’ve got a compromised immune system and have had pneumonia and mrsa multiple times. My local walk in has closed so for me having a few emergency courses is great and gives me peace of mind.

presume you do need to send them the prescription?

Nope. You just browse the website and then email if you want clarification from them. They give you a price and delivery and then you send payment. Took me 10 days from enquiry to taking delivery.

you can check the payment details etc on these photos , and my email chain ( I’ve redacted my name and personal info) I don’t want anybody to think I’m leading them down the garden path etc. They are really easy to deal with and im more happy use them again in the future.

@SnowShapes7 Sorry, could I also please request the details? I've been lurking too but holding off buying due to the cost of TSM.
