Blood test results

My mum has been an alcoholic for years but her drinking has increased in the last couple of years. She’s been hospitalised twice with low potassium but starts drinking as soon as she goes home. She’s cut down a lot but is still drinking a bottle of wine a day, maybe a bit less.

She had some blood test results today but didn’t understand them, I’ve just called the GP receptionist and she told me her levels were 2200 (I presume that’s enzymes but she wasn’t sure). Her Bilruben is 53. They mentioned Alkaline is 760.

She will be going for a scan soon but I wondered if anyone knew how high these results were compared to normal? I’ve looked online and I can’t seem to get answers. Obviously I’ll take her to the scan and hopefully speak to her doctor but in the meantime I’m lost.

It’s heartbreaking and so frustrating watching someone go through this. All the years I’ve begged her to get help and nothings changed.

Can you get some RL support eg Al Anon. I’m sorry OP but her relationship with alcohol clearly takes precedence. .

I'm sorry this sounds so hard for you.
The enzyme is likely to be GammaGT.
The alkaline is alkaline phosphatase.
There are 2 other enzymes ALT and AST, but the level 2000+ doesn't sound right for them.

Thank you both. Yes her relationship with alcohol has always taken precedence. I’ve been to Al Anon which was really helpful for me. I have tried to ‘detach with love’ so I will take her shopping, to the doctors etc but no longer ask about her drinking or engage with her whilst drunk. I’ve accepted that she won’t change but it’s still frustrating.

@Hohofortherobbers thank you for that. The receptionist said she wasn’t medically trained so just gave me the number 2000 which was ‘trans’ something I think. I should be able to take her to the next appointment but in the meantime I just wondered how serious things are, whether cirrhosis looks likely or if there is still a chance of recovery.

2000 is very high indicating significant damage. Normal ALT is up to 50 All phos is 100 ISH and bilirubin less than 20.

She needs to stop alcohol completely. The liver can regenerate to some extent.

Thank you. Yes, the fact the blood test results were pretty much immediate made me realise they weren’t good. It sounds like the results are far too high. I’m struggling with knowing how much to help her when she won’t help herself. When I know more I’ll see if there is a detox place she could go to.
For years she managed to work full time, see her friends and had a full life then it quickly caught up with her.
