First Christmas no contact

Hi all,

Earlier this year I went NC with my alcoholic mother. It took a lot to get me to this point and it was the best thing for me to do.

Those who have also done this, how did you deal with the first Christmas NC?

I feel as though I'm expecting some sort of drama from her despite the fact I've not seen or spoken to her for several months now. I think this is due to previous behaviour over the last few Christmas's, she ended up spending last year alone because she went in a strop after drinking (usual behaviour) and refused to spend it with the family. I know she openly regretted this as it ended up being the last one with my Gran.

Thank you

I would focus on doing lovely Christmas things and don’t set yourself up for drama. What I mean is, first, focus on making it a lovely fun Christmas for you and the other special people in your life, and then plan ahead for how you will make sure she stays away and that you don’t self-sabotage that. Draft someone else in to answer the door or intercept any parcels. Plan to go somewhere else if being at home is too much. Block her (even for the day) on your phone, don’t go checking email looking for one from her, don’t look at social media if she uses it, etc. Live in blissful ignorance if only for a day or two.

Thank you for your response. That's basically what I had planned on doing and luckily she doesn't know where we live now so shouldn't have any unexpected visits. I think I was just having a bit of a wobble so really appreciate what you've said
