Hi all. Have been a regular poster before. Looking for some support.

often suffer with anxiety after drinking to the point I do big alchol free stints and have only recently started drinking again…. Albeit very moderated.

however, tonight I’ve had 3 glasses of wine, it’s got to bed and I’m filled with anxiety. To the point I can’t sleep. And feel shivery and horrible! I’m having quite a hard time in my private life due to a bereavement but nothing that I’m exactly anxious about, just a feeling. Massively regretting drinking and will have to go back to my a/f ways…. But would love some support/tips on dealing with the anxiety in the here and now.
I’ve had lots of water and am trying to distract myself! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Sorry to hear this. I have been there many times! Once at Alton Towers sitting outside the Lodge at 3am! I have a few strategies. I often find a silly game to play on my phone. Currently I find ‘I want Watermelon’ mindless but absorbing. This often helps to take my mind off my breathing and general panic. Also scrolling through AIBU helps! Sometime I get up and go outside. Or go downstairs and watch TV. I give up on sleep and just try to distract myself. It will pass xx

Hey @Bigbus thanks for the reply. I’ve managed to quell the panic…. By scrolling on my phone, reading mumsnet and just letting it pass! We’ve spoke many times on the moderating thread (which I seem to have lost), so I know you understand. I think I best go back to A/f…. Even moderating I can trigger my anxiety! Not worth it, but I have said this before !!!!!

Probably a bit late to be helpful but something I find really useful is understanding the physiology of what is happening. If you can feel your heart racing, you can contextualise it (nothing bad is happening, this is my sympathetic nervous system rebounding from the depressive effect of a drug, it will pass). Also sweet or carby things always help me! Hope you're feeling better.

This is something I suggest on here if someone needs a laugh/to take their mind off something, it's a thread in mumsnet classics called something like 'expectation versus reality with online purchases' (sorry can't link on the app). It always makes me laugh and it's so long it takes ages to get through.

Hi @Mj20 ! Sorry I haven’t been on sooner. How are you doing? Want to keep this thread running or are you back on the main one?
