Alcohol Face

Hey,
I have been heavy drinking for the past few years and can start to notice the effects it's having on my 40yr old face. Puffy face, bags, fine lines appearing deeper, hair becoming thin and snapping. I am now having more alcohol free days with the intention to stop altogether.
I look after my skin, wear nice products and make up but I just dont recognise myself anymore. A penny has dropped and I need to change.

Anyone here have any advice on how to can help revive and repair my skin after heavy drinking? Supplements, etc?

Thanks for your help 🤗

Alcohol destroys collagen, and dehydrates you and makes you puffy at the same time. It’s just cruel!

The biggest revelation to me was sober hair! After about 6 months my hair was so much thicker and shiny. And my eyes and skin became so much clearer.

You won’t need expensive supplements if you become free of alcohol (although you will save so much money by not drinking that you can afford to treat yourself, if that makes you happy!)

Good luck.

I can't wait or sober hair! Mine used to be lovely and long and full but it doesn't seem to get past a certain length these days cos it just snaps.

Sad what we do to ourselves really isn't. It's madness!

Everyone I know who has stopped drinking looks like a completely different person now - I look years younger, I know some women in their 40s who easily look 10 years younger now.

I don't think there is a magic potion you need. You just need to give up the booze, sleep well, drink lots of water. Your body will repair itself.

Bovine collagen is the best (I’ve tested many). Davinia Taylor an actress who has been sober for many years has her own brand called Willpowders and it’s the best collagen I’ve tried. She has many other supplements which are all good. It has no taste, I pop it in my coffee and add it to foods. Stay away from marine collagen if you’re worried about taste. Cod liver oil, magnesium and carcumim are also good for the body. Good luck!

I think I need to write out and pin up your final paragraph and read it every time I want to drink.

OP I recently gave up alcohol completely for a month. I had to take some passport photos just before and looking at photos of me after the month of abstinence compared to those honestly shocked me. It had crept up on me so gradually that I thought it was just ageing (I'm 39), but no, it was far worse than that - dull skin, bloat, puffy eyes with huge bags, spots, an overall 'sad' look. And I felt old too - always tired, no energy, unhappy and short tempered and always snapping at DH, underperforming at work.

I'm not going to say that I looked like a model or something in the 'after' photos 😅 but at least I look my age! Clearer skin and eyes, far less bloated and saggy, I look (and feel) energised and happy!

Since then (it was a few months back) I have had the odd drink but not more than a couple a week. Then I had some bad news and had a one week binge and wham - straight back to looking like the 'before' passport photos. I've decided now that the only way for me to go is full abstinence. I never ever want to look and feel like that again. I'm already nearly back to looking OK again - I'm going to try the collagen supplements recommended by PPs (thanks for the tip!).

Good luck OP!

I’m depressed now.. why doesn’t it seem to work for me then? Maybe I’m not drinking enough water

Just shows what it's doing to our body. Scary really! I've cut back and after Mothers day I'm going to give it up for a month and take pics. I'm really hoping i get similar results to yours.

Well done! Good luck with sobriety x
