Liver damage?

I’m not seeking medical advice, I am purely hoping to get some perspective and stop my health anxiety from spiralling please be kind.

I had some routine liver function tests a few months ago that were all completely normal, but have been drinking a bottle of wine 4 nights a week with a few nights off since the test.
Am I likely to have permanent scarring and damage to my liver in that short space of time since good LFT levels?

I’ve no symptoms of liver problems and I feel somewhat reassured I had a normal liver function test 3 months ago but I’m just worried that in the few months since the test I have done irreversible damage to my liver.

I’ve now cut down to just a Friday and Saturday night having a drink and feel much better.

I also have a vacation coming up and want to be able to enjoy some cocktails and Prosecco but I'm just terrified I've done damage to my liver over the last few months.

I just wondered if anyone could share how much and how long they were drinking before they had any liver issues please?

Thank you for your time 😊

I doubt you've done too much damage in just a few months, but if you have health anxiety, you do need to drink in moderation. Some people can drink a bottle of wine a day for 10 years and be fine, others will die of liver failure. You just don't know.

It's very likely that you will die at some point.

What does this mean? Now I'm really worried 😟

It's just someone being glib, given it is 100% certain that all of us will die at some point.

I'd very very doubt your drinking levels will have caused harm and I'm sure your holiday will be fine too. But I'd stick to under 14 units a week as a regular thing in general (not necessarily on a week or two of holiday) so you don't need to stress about it

OP, @Crocusbaby I think means none of us are getting out of here alive unfortunately
It is extremely unlikely to have done long term damage over that time frame and the liver regenerates
youve done the right thing reducing it but no it’s really not likely to have caused any long term issues

No idea whether your liver is being damaged - you might be lucky, you might not - but the fact that you're worried and 'terrified', and feel better having cut down, probably indicates that it's a good idea to reduce your drinking.
Also, keep up the regular blood tests.

No, you won't have done any permanent damage to your liver. I was drinking significantly more than that for years, for the last year or so, 2-3 bottles of wine a day every day. I had elevated LFTs, but only just a bit, and no permanent damage. My levels are all picture perfect now and they were back to normal within 4 weeks of me quitting drinking.

You'll be fine. Just be sensible from here on out and enjoy your holiday. If you find that daily drinking is creeping in again, consider giving it up altogether if keeping it to a day here and there isn't working. Otherwise, all sounds fine.
