Is this due to being AF?

After drinking pretty much daily (anything from one glass to one bottle of wine) for several years I've managed to be af since start of 2024.
I'm now having problems sleeping and I'm getting frequent headaches. Could this be due to giving alcohol? If it is, how long will it last?

Well done for going AF.
It does take a while for sleep to improve, & headaches are common.
I admit I felt worse being AF initially, but there comes a time when you suddenly realise you feel, and look, bloody amazing! Hang on in there, it will get better.

First of all, well done. Secondly try taking vitamin b complex as alcohol washes it out of your system.

It’s not the absence of alcohol that is causing you any health problems or
sleep problems. That’s the first thing to remember. Most likely, When you were drinking that would cause you to black out rather than drift naturally to sleep so
your body just isn’t used yet to the new natural equilibrium. Make sure you are doing some exercise which will help your feel tired and ready for sleep every night. The absence of alcohol in your system is allowing you to better ‘read’ or understand your body and your health and maybe you are dehydrated and need to drink a lot more water daily? Obviously if the headaches persist seek medical advice. Huge congratulations on stopping drinking alcohol.

Yes, it's not uncommon. It's called PAWS - post-acute withdrawal syndrome. Now you could also be having headaches, for example, because you aren't drinking enough water or you're stressed or you have a virus coming on. But yes, all of these things can be related to your body re-adjusting to the new normal without alcohol. Do keep going though because it does get better. I have to say I felt pretty rubbish for about 3 months, but things picked up after that.
