I think I may be a functioning alcoholic. I work a 9-5 where I don't even think about alcohol. But within a couple of hours of being home I want a drink. And I can drink until I fall into bed. I regret it the next day and become so conscious that as my 2 DC are getting older they are noticing and may influence them to drink as they get older...

If it bothers you, you should try to stop. Have you thought about talking to a peer support group like AA or your GP?

I'm embarrassed too. Don't have the time to attend meetings... I know it is becoming an issue and I'm so embarrassed of it.

I understand the embarrassment. I'm a recovering alcoholic in long term sobriety. Addiction is a progressive disease, which means it gets worse over time. It's not a moral or personal failing. You can attend AA meetings on Zoom and don't have to turn your camera on.

I'm an HCP. Doctors like it when patients admit that they have a problem like this that they want help with. It's much easier to deal with now than when you're in liver failure.
