Today I've woken up so ashamed, last night I sat alone crying and drank wine (a bottle and half) on route to bed I tripped over my laptop wire and smashed my head on the side corner (I think) my bed. Needless to say I'm a bit bruised this morning and my eye is massively puffy. I can't go out, I can't be seen and I can never drink again. I have a problem, I can't stop when I start and now I've hit my rock bottom. Please no judgment I'm seriously fragile right now. I just needed to write this down in black and white.

I’m just two years sober, OP, and if I can do it, so can you.

Sign up to the Annie Grace 30 Day Challenge and make sure you watch the videos and check in each day. The support is so helpful.

Buy in a load of Haribo - you’ll get sugar cravings.

Download a meditation app - meditation really, really helped me. I did the Jeff Warren 30 day series on Calm alongside the Sober challenge.

Join Club Soda on Facebook.

Download the Sober Time app so you can watch your progress.

Order some quit lit - This Naked Mind, The Luckiest and Quit Like A Girl were my favourites.

Take up some exercise if you don’t do any already - Couch to 5k, or just a regular walk.

Take a selfie now that you can use to compare your alcohol-free pics with. You won’t believe how different you look in a month!

Treat it like a project - because it is. And it’s the best thing you will ever do for yourself. There’s absolutely no downside to sober living. I just wish wish WISH I’d done it when my kids were little.

Good luck!

tonystarksrighthand I agree.

OP, hopefully this is your rock bottom and the only way is up. A bottle and a half in one go is a huge amount of alcohol to drink in one go, yet conversely there are a lot of people out there who drink that on a regular basis and think it is all fine because they are not rolling in a gutter somewhere. You are doing a good thing for yourself. How about joining the AF thread on this board? it is very supportive and has posters at various stages in the journey. Everyone is very friendly and non judgemental.

@ShirleyJackson thank you there some great recommendations here. I'm signed up for Annie's 30 day experiment and checking in daily and also journaling. I'm keen to find a meditation app so will look at the one you have mentioned. I'm feeling positive this is my time to change and yes everyone has a different rock bottom and this is certainly mine.

I'll also hop on the other group, I could do with the support for sure!

Thank you everyone who has posted a comment, you really don't know how much you have helped me over the past couple of days. Much love x x

Everyone has a different rock bottom

Yes I for one am glad I managed to halt it before I got to stage of PP sister - that’s truly tragic

but the reality and fear of that was what made me realise I had to stop

books - alcohol explained 1 and 2, the sober diaries. this Naked Mind, unexpected joy of being sober, sunshine warm sober, glorious rock bottom are all good

Podcasts - Janey Lee Grace Alcohol Free Life, over the influence

Massive win for me today.. I found myself at an impromptu gig matinée with a very famous band doing a live. (They live locally) Offered some tin of gin and something and I declined and said no I don't drink alcohol. When questioned why I just said I preferred the sober life. 🙅‍♀️ I found it so easy and then shut the conversation down by moving onto something else. Onto day 5 we go!

Wonderful OP! That's the way to live and love the sober life.

rockbottombird · 19/08/2022 08:09

Checking in on day 6 🙌 still no desire to drink which is great. Ive been journaling daily and keeping focused. Going to look into meditation and yoga over the weekend as I'd like to try it.

You’re doing great - nearly got your first week under your belt!

I found day 10 was a real turning point - I started to feel physically better at that point. The alcohol takes about 10-14 days to completely clear your system, iirc.

So you’re just going to feel better and better!
