Hi folks
NC for this - just looking to see i fthere's anyone else in this very odd boat.
When I'm at home on my own and stressed, I tend to just drink what's inf ront of me. So if that was half a bottle of wine, fine,e but sometimes it can be a fair whack of a bottle of gin. I've tried to stop having it in the house for that reason. But when I'm out with friends, I actually don't drink as much, and if I don't have it it doesn't bother me.
I don't want to give up entirely but it's that thing of once I've started I find it hard to stop.

Not in the same boat but you could try buying pre-mixed cans of gin etc then just have 1 or 2. I also drink camomile tea every night at 9pm and never fancy alcohol after that

It's not a good sign when you don't have an internal "off switch" for alcohol.
Yorkshireteabags · 27/06/2022 20:55
Could you stop having it at home and only drink on nights out?

but if you read my OP again, I do, in some ways.
When I'm out and about with pals, I drink much less.
And if I don't have it, I'm not bothered.
But thanks for pointing out what I'm already worried about. Really helpful.

I think that's going to have to be the way forward.
I always enjoyed a drink, at uni etc, so my tolerance is pretty high, which is part of the problem. I can easily overdo it and then get up and work.
I'm not a bad drunk, I'm just aware of the units I'm putting away.

there's an idea. I'm the same once I've brushed my teeth lol, but it's getting to that stage that is the problem! I just think "oh il have another wee one" and then one wee one becomes many wee ones.

@longnights I used to struggle with this.
But if you're open to it I would question your statement that once you start it's hard to stop. Every sip is a decision to drink. Every sip is an opportunity to stop.
I have a podcast called 90 Days Later. Episode 4 covers the snappy topic: 'It's easier not to drink than it is to stop once I start' that I would recommend for you.
