Is this a drink problem?

DP drinks a bottle of wine every other night, sometimes more, or sometimes a bottle and a couple of gins. He usually buys the same wine every time.

He can easily not drink which is why I don’t think it is necessarily a problem. But when we have been apart ie he’s in a hotel with work etc we will speak on the phone and he is clearly drunk.

My family have noticed that his hand trembles sometimes and they think it is drink related

His mood massively massively changes with alcohol. I often hope he will have a drink when he comes in as he’s such a misery otherwise.

I don’t drink much and don’t really know if this is a problem ie he relies on it or just someone who likes a drink?

He might be using drink to deal with a personal issue, he doesn't sound like an alcoholic but well on the way in my opinion.
I'd speak to him about it if you haven't already

That's quite a lot
How long has it been going on for?
Personally I feel there is a difference between an 'alcoholic' and a 'Problem drinker'
Alcoholics are like any other drug addict in that they will need that hit daily and will suffer physical withdrawals symptoms and so on
Problem drinkers are still addicts but not yet to that point and they can go without but will then choose to get drunk even when it negatively impacts their family and life
Have you spoken to him about your worries?
If you do and he carries on then he has a problem

It doesn't really matter what you call it. He's drinking so much it will affect his health. His heart, liver or increased risk of cancer. It changes his mood in that he is miserable without it.

Also does he drive the next day after a whole bottle and multiple gins?

It doesn't matter how much or how often he drinks, it's what happens when he does for example the mood changing etc

You don't have to be an everyday brown bag, vodka drinker to have a problem.

Hope you all get the support you need.
