Stopped drinking a week ago - feel absolutely worn out!!

I was drinking a bottle of wine every evening and just suddenly decided enough was enough. I was permanently weary due to sleeping badly so was hoping that a week later I might start feeling a bit perkier. But I'm feeling totally worn out! I just want to sleep! I realise it's early days and assume that it just takes a while to start to feel the benefit. So when will I hopefully start to feel better??

It does take a while for your body to adjust. I think you should feel noticeably better in another week or so. Your neurochemistry is trying to revert to normal.

Just wanted to say well done for recognising the problem, and doing something about it.
Other than that, I have nothing useful to say as when I give up or go on a dry spell, I feel better almost immediately.

Yes, well done indeed OP.

I celebrated 29 years of sobriety this week. Grin

Fatigue is a withdrawal symptom

Just keep pushing through it. You're doing really well. Treat yourself to some nice food if you need to, try and get an early night and wake up feeling fresh.

Well done op. When the benefits come you won't look back. For me it took about 3 weeks and it was tough but, I kept at it as I was so glad not to wake up with a hangover.

I am 80 days sober today and have never felt better. Look after yourself, indulge and eat what you fancy. I did initially take nytol to help, might be worth having a nice bath before bed. I really recommend quit lit on audible it really sank in and reaffirmed my decision. You can do this

Well I did wake up feeling a bit more rested this morning, yay! I think I must be catching up on all my years of rubbish sleep since I'm sleeping a good 10 hours a night as well as having the occasional nap!! Just waiting for the snoring to settle now, I'm still raising the rafters at night Blush Anyway, thanks for replies, I guess there is no rush, I know I'll feel better in time Smile

Well done for stopping. A bottle of wine a night is often dismissed as not that much (I found) but it is a huge amount of units per week.

I don't know if I could put an exact time on how long sleep took to become better. But I just know it did!
