After having raised Serum ALT for a few years an ultrasound showed a fatty liver.

Fast forward a few years then not only was that raised but Serum Gamma GT was also raised.

A fibroscan earlier this month has shown I now have significant fibrosis.

Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation?

Hey @SAB10 how are things going for you? Have you had your fibroscan yet?

Plodding on here, liver clinic this thursday AM for me (fingers crossed it won't be cancelled this time!) Then mums funeral on Friday.

Hey! Still no scan, I think it's planned provisionally for a couple of weeks' time. I'm still having weekly bloods and they want my bilirubin levels to come down more before the scan. Otherwise just plodding on tbh, I'm two months AF today so still on the wagon!

Fingers crossed for you for the liver clinic on Thurs, and sending strength for your mum's funeral on Friday x

Mums funeral tomorrow so just a quick post.

Clinic today went so well. Had another fibroscan and the stiffness has improved massively, still have scarring but the fact the stiffness has lessened already is a brilliant sign the scarring may heal quite a bit - time will tell.

Bloods done today were also normal!!!!

The alcohol nurse was buzzingly happy for me, and it managed to lift my mood this morning.

Have to go for a ultrasound again, and then another fibroscan in 6 months. Just to keep sitting on this wagon. Going to be a hard day tomorrow but cannot fail at this hurdle!

That's brilliant news! I should be having my second scan soon (the consultant wants to see my bloods normalise a bit more first) so fingers crossed.

Hope today goes as well as it can - your mum would be so proud of you Smile x

Thank you, it went as well as it could go and also didn't rain. Been a tough day, and could massively glug down booze to numb me, gonna have a long bath and read to try and switch off.

10 weeks af today.

@BraveFaceScaredInside Thank you. My friend seems to be ok, I'm the one who has gone into panic stations. Will know more after the first scan, I feel a bit more knowledgeable from this thread. Will be back with questions more than likely.

@BraveFaceScaredInside - hope you don’t mind me jumping on your thread - I’ve been abusing alcohol realistically for about 10 years but the past 2 years have been off the scale binge drinking - as much as a litre of spirits in 24 hours. Half one night then half the next day allowed me to kid myself on it was over 2 days - as if that is ok!

I’m on my last chance with my family so I need to really crack it this time. I’m only on day 2 and I appear to have been fortunate with my liver so far - had a scan which showed a little fatty liver and bloods only very slightly off.

I really wanted to say how amazing you’re doing and that you fibroscan and bloods improved so much in only a few months!! that is really motivating as it shows that issues can be reversed with abstinence. So even if I have problems I’m not aware of/no symptoms, it encourages me to stay off the booze and get healthier.

Hope you are coping okay with your bereavement Flowers

@Mybestyear More than welcome to join the thread Daffodil

Well done on being day 2, it's bloody hard! So pleased your test results aren't any worst, thankfully it seems as if you have caught things for your liver in time 😁 I'm happy to chat if it helps at all.

I am now 83 days alcohol free, still have moments that are hard work, but overall it's getting easier. Drinking fever tree tonics from a wine glass helps lol.

I think I'm coping with mums loss quite well, I'm still sad and having teary moments, but she was so poorly the last couple of days it was a release for her.

Your doing the very best thing you can, for you, your family, and your health Flowers

@BraveFaceScaredInside thanks! I’m sorry you are feeling the way you do about the loss of your mum although it’s still early days so I guess to be expected. I was “glad” and relieved when my mum passed which is a horrible thing to think - but her drinking was so bad I just felt free when she died. Ironically I promised myself my own kids would not feel this way about me but I’m in danger of that happening. Life is so tough at times but we can be sure, being hungover, anxious and regretful will not make it any better.

Must give them a try! I buy the rhubarb and raspberry tonic water from sainsbury - it’s their own brand, really nice and not too expensive - and low calorie too.

@Theskyoutsideisblue Welcome! I suspect the majority of us have some trauma we have abused alcohol to help deal with - I started drinking heavily to get to sleep as I just couldn’t shut my brain off and it spiralled from there. Day 3 for me today and a sober weekend ahead which I am really looking forward to - last weekend was spent on a drunken heap on the sofa and I woke up on Monday thinking “thank god it’s only Sunday” - I was meeting a friend for lunch and she messaged to say “where we meeting later” and only then did I realise it was Monday! I literally lost a whole day - madness.

Hope everyone on this thread is ok? @SAB10 especially you have been in my thoughts.

Well folks, I had my liver ultrasound monday!!!

I am amazed and confused and s bit head fucked (excuse the swearing, but it sums up in words)

Liver looks normal!!! Not even fatty liver now. I have called the liver clinics secretary and they already have the ultrasound results, so she said she will let the consultant know to update me/my doctors as to what next.

I came away from the ultrasound buzzing with happiness at first, but then its left me confused. Was it just inflammation that gave me the high fibroscan reading? Has being af mended it? Questions I hope to have answered when the consultant writes to me.

In the meantime I know I can't return to how I was. I don't want to. The improvements I feel are massive.

Buuuuut this makes me wonder more if at some point having like 1 glass at special occasions could be possible. It was easier when I thought shit my livers bad. Now the option is there for things to open up a little.

Heads all over the place thinking about it. Still so happy my liver is now ok.

Delighted your liver is ok. I can imagine how it can be a touch triggering but ultimately this is good news for your body

I think just having one drink would lead to you relapsing big time - been there, got the t-shirt from A&E.....your brain will play any damn trick on you to get you back on the demon drink. Celebrate your good health by staying sober!
