Just looking for some advice on anyone who has seen a loved one or family member go through a diagnosis of late stage cirrhosis/liver disease.

My DM was diagnosed with cirrhosis this time last year after developing bad jaundice, ascites as well as other problems like bleeding and swelling. Admitted to hospital a few times to get symptoms under control and get fluid drained.

She has stopped drinking and is on medication to control the fluid as well as a lot of other medication, but it's all pretty secretive. She lost a lot weight and never looks well. Bruises very easily and always seems a bit puffy with swollen ankles.

She says her regular blood tests are coming back fine but what's the mortality rate or your experience when it gets this severe, even if she doesn't drink anymore?
I feel like I don't know if it's weeks, months or years that she will be around.

From my own research (a relative was in hospital with alcohol related problems) I think the fact she has stopped drinking will extend her life expectancy.
I understand what you mean by secrecy. I think half the problem us relatives have is that we don't know the full story and therefore can't prepare ourselves properly. I spent a long time googling for answers but didn't know enough detail to get a conclusive idea.
