Anyone used Allen Carr's stop drinking book?

I've bought the book and currently reading it.

My alcohol consumption has got out of hand again, I've had this problem for many years.

Has anyone had success after reading the book?

It gets a lot of love on various abstinence threads here. Your best bet would be to use the search tab on here to find tons of chat about that book, there's loads.

I found the smoking one made a lot of sense but I wasn't ready to stop when I read it. Stopped alone a few years later. I assume the drinking one makes equal sense and if you are receptive to the message it is likely to be a very useful support tool.

I have read it and found it very useful and helpful. It genuinely took away my desire to pick up a drink, which is great. However, it doesn't address physiological or physical addiction at all, so only works (in my opinion) on a very superficial level. So it didn't stop me drinking, but has been a really useful tool in my arsenal of quit lit!

I read it (twice) and found it helpful at the time but it didn’t stop me drinking - I wasn’t ready I don’t think. I’m now 2 weeks alcohol free and want to stop for ever so feel more ready and planning to read again.

I read it and have gone from daily drinking to nothing and have no intention of drinking again - but I am only 12 days in. It's certainly the most sure I've ever felt that I will abstain completely.
There are loads of us over on the Freedom thread (from newbies like me to those who have been alcohol free for months and years). Come and join us if you choose to kick the booze out of your life.

Thanks guys

I've nearly finished the book. I like the way he drums into you about the core message in every chapter. It had certainly make me think differently- I haven't had a drink for a week now. I think the book definitely made me not want to pick up a drink.

The way he explains the two monsters. Why don't they teach this in schools, I don't remember anyone explaining about alcohol to me, I think I must have been 30 before I realized it was poison. No one ever warned me, where are we supposed to learn this stuff?

I drank most of a liter bottle of gin a week, really used to look forward to the drink every evening.

I have been teetotal for 3,5 years after reading Annie Grace's book This Naked Mind. It really resonated me, it felt like a switch was flicked in my brain, I saw alcohol for what it was and haven't drank since and have no interest in alcohol. Good luck!

I gave up alcohol almost two years ago after reading Allen Carr's The Easy Way To Control Alcohol. I also signed up online to the Annie Grace 30 Day Alcohol Experiment.

I cannot recommend the Allen Carr book highly enough, it totally changed my outlook on alcohol. I have better sleep, better mood, clearer skin, my hayfever and rosacea have cleared up, I have more time, I don't procrastinate, I have more fun when I socialise and no more hangovers.

I read Jason Vale Kick the Drink and Craig Beck Alcohol Lied to Me. They are very similar to Allen Carr. I'm nearly 3 years alcohol free.

yes, really great book. I read most of it and stopped for 5 months overnight with no issues! These days I drink again but much more rarely.
