Day two for me.. absolutely determined ☺️

@wakeupnshakeup - I’m doing it. I have been abusing alcohol for years and recently it’s escalated to the point where I am in danger of losing everything. Day 3 for me and also determined. Reading lots of quit lit, watching podcasts etc. I can usually get to 8 - 10 days then go on a bender so next weekend will be my danger point.

Do you feel you have an alcohol problem or just wanting to cut down generally?

wakeupnshakeup · 01/07/2021 23:16

I used to be completely AF, I had something knock me off balance and started having the odd glass to take the edge off. 3 yrs on that's a bottle and it has to stop. I've felt scared for a while since lockdown really that the situation has spiralled so dry July is a starting point for me. Be nice to have some virtual buddies 😉

I want to be AF until 21st and summer hol.
Day 2 yesterday, but today will be my first challenge as I usually end the week with friends, wine, and chat.
I will find it hard.

Buntyforgirls · 02/07/2021 22:03

Stuck to AF, so day 3 completed yay!
Good luck for the weekend!

Morning all, up and fresh as a daisy. AF weekend so far. Delighted! Hope you are doing well ☺️

Can I join? Bit late - but we’re just back from a week away (Scotland/ Scottish school holidays).

I just feel my alcohol intake is creeping up - think I’m getting closer to finishing a bottle of wine by myself, and that not having much of an effect.
One brother is alcoholic, and my Gran was said to be alcoholic. (I don’t know for sure).

Would just like this not to get any worse.

wakeupnshakeup · 05/07/2021 11:37

Welcome @SummerTimeIsLovely I hope you had a lovely holiday. My mother was an alcoholic but it was never mentioned.. I have some awful memories of her blackouts as a child and I'm determined that won't be me and my own children.

I'm the same, 3 years ago a glass of wine would see me tipsy and in bed by 10. Now I can knock back a bottle to myself quite happily but I know it's wrong and far to much of a habit than the occasional drink.

I'm doing great so far and really getting some good sleep .. long may that continue. I'm slightly worried come Wednesday when the footie is on I might get carried away .. 😬 but I'm absolutely going to give it my all. I'm can still enjoy the match without wine fgs

You absolutely can! I think the riskiest bit is at the start - I find if I start sensibly with something non alcoholic, it’s much easier to continue.
I do like the Kombucha you get in Sainsbury’s (brown plastic bottle). It’s not too sweet, like other soft drinks.

My difficult day will be the weekly zoom call with friends on a Friday - it’s all about the glass of wine! But not everyone does drink - I need to make the transition

Buntyforgirls · 06/07/2021 21:39

1st 7 days completed...how’s everyone doing?

wakeupnshakeup · 06/07/2021 22:58

Well done!! I'm still going strong.. night 7 for me to. Feeling OK.. just harder to get to sleep at night 😬

At the start of 2021 I was drinking a bottle of red wine every night, smoking 10-15 cigarettes per day and am type 2 diabetic. One day in January I had a stroke.
I no longer drink or smoke at all as am scared of having another stroke. Plus I don't want a drink or a cigarette.
It was a wake up call for me. I feel so much better although the effects of the stroke have been live changing.
Please don't be like me and risk your life or take your health for granted.
Good luck to all of you on your journeys.x

wakeupnshakeup · 09/07/2021 12:04

Well done @potter5 amazing what a health scare can do. I hope you are better! I'm still AF and not smoked since last March, trying very hard to be a healthier person not just for me but for my children.

Gosh, pp, that sounds absolutely terrifying. I really need to stop. I've tried so many times. I'm going to keep trying. You're right, taking your health for granted can have terrible consequences.

ohnomesandwiches · 12/07/2021 11:18

Late to the party but I am going to join. I'm drinking most of a bottle of wine a night and more at weekends. I regularly have blackouts. I have a young son so this has to stop. My mental health is in tatters too.

Here goes then.

Amdone123 · 12/07/2021 12:11

@ohnomesandwiches, let's do it. I'm dreadfully hungover today. Am sick of feeling like this. @potter5's post has made me think though. Strangely, I've never thought of the consequences to my health through drinking. Well, weight wise but that's more vanity. The thought of dying or having a stroke and my granddaughter and loved ones not having me around is bad.

wakeupnshakeup · 12/07/2021 14:06

Welcome to you both! Health is probably the most important reason behind going AF. I'm still going strong (remarkably) and feeling far better than I did at the start of July!! I'm going to keep going.. pretty sure I've lost a few pounds to 😉

@wakeupnshakeup, well done, that's brilliant. You are my inspiration Smile

ohnomesandwiches · 12/07/2021 20:04

I've managed to get past dinner without having anything to drink which is when I'm most tempted.

Going to try and get up for an early morning walk tomorrow to give me a bit of a lift.

My dad had a drink problem and passed away in his early fifties. I need to get this sorted now. I don't have any more time to lose.

Good luck everyone!

Burtknowsbest · 12/07/2021 20:07

Bit late to the game but want to get a month alcohol free under my belt - time for a reset! I can be very controlled for a couple of weeks but then I’ll inevitably over do it and spend the next day feeling guilty and full of self loathing.

Glad to hear that you’re feeling better a couple of weeks in wakeupnshakeup, its very motivating to hear and I’m hoping for the same too, plus I’m also of an age where it really is all about the health!

wakeupnshakeup · 14/07/2021 23:36

Welcome @Burtknowsbest hope it's going Ok. I'm still going strong, finding getting to sleep a little difficult but hopefully that will pass. Definitely not so bloated.. huge motivation!
