I'm going to give it my absolute best shot ( no pun intended)

I normally only have a drink Friday and Saturday night, been creeping into a Thursday recently though. Every Sunday I say I’m having a few weeks off and that’s it I don’t think about it again until the Thursday/ Friday.

However it’s been on my mind constantly since Sunday morning, that I’m not giving in this week. Not sure if it’s because I’m reading the sober girls society or it’s more.

Any idea

Morning, folks. Day 2 and feeling positive. Weekdays are ok for me, unless the sun is shining (no chance of that, here. It's like winter). Weekends can be challenging, but I can do it. Got nothing planned for a month, so this thread perfect for me.
@RuLu, I would take it one day at a time, then think about Friday nearer the time ( unless you need to make arrangements?).

RuLu · 04/05/2021 16:30

Day 3!
They'll be fine whatever I choose I think, in fact driving would probably be preferable so no one has to pay for a taxi but I'll feel like I'm missing out/feel like I have to stay til the early hours to take everyone home! I'm swaying towards staying home, film with the kids & early night! It may change but I hope I can stick to that!

Amdone123 · 04/05/2021 17:40

Oops, I've fallen. I was so motivated but heard this morning that my friend's husband died. It was sudden, he was 45. They'd only been married 3 years. I'm shook up, so I buy wine.
I will try again tomorrow.

RuLu · 08/05/2021 00:13

Just got in....I drove & had a great time!! Smile

Newsorrynewagain · 08/05/2021 08:37

@RuLu that’s fantastic. I bet tomorrow you’ll feel on top of the world.

I’ve still not had anything

RuLu · 08/05/2021 09:22

I do! I'm pleasantly surprised! Maybe this can actually be a thing....me driving on nights out! Fingers crossed!

RuLu · 08/05/2021 09:23

Well done! Tonight will be the challenge....I might get a takeaway & film to distract myself!

randomer · 08/05/2021 09:27

I'm wondering when the feel good factor kicks in.....Ive managed nearly a week but missing the dopamine.

About two weeks for me @randomer, for the benefits to kick in. I am enjoying waking up hangover free at the weekends, but feel a bit flat generally.

Well done to those staying dry - don't worry if you've lapsed though - just start again, and string those dry days together. Every day counts. It really is a marathon, not a sprint. I really missed my wine with my takeaway last night - but got past that and actually enjoyed watching TV on a Friday night and following it for a change! And I don't have the jaded Saturday morning feeling now which I've been far too used to of late.
Good luck everyone.

Newsorrynewagain · 08/05/2021 10:41

I’m enjoying not having to worry if I’m ok to drive. Only problem, I made an optician appointment 4 weeks ago and made it for afternoon so I’d hopefully be under the limit...... now waiting with nothing to do

MagratGarlikInDisguise · 08/05/2021 11:47

I slipped up last night, shared a bottle of red with DH. Didn't really like to taste at first bit a few sips in, I enjoyed it. Had to reach for another glass though. Felt awful this morning even after half a bottle, heart racing, anxiety, head still aching. Never again. It has really put me off. Decided to take the Alcohol Experiment approach and analyse why I gave in and what i thought the benefit would be (fun convo) vs reality (feeling terrible). Its really making me examine why I have this relationship with alcohol and I realise now, I don't need it. Onwards!

joysmoy66 · 10/05/2021 08:06

Can I join please? V late but I need a reset after a heavy weekend. Drinking has been creeping up for a while now.

Bananarama2 · 10/05/2021 08:32

@joysmoy66 of course. The more the merrier!

joysmoy66 · 10/05/2021 09:04

Thanks banana Smile

singlemum43 · 10/05/2021 22:48

How’s everyone getting on? I’ve hit my first milestone of 2 weeks AF 🙌🏻. Got to keep going definitely feeling like I have more energy. 😁

Bananarama2 · 10/05/2021 23:37

@singlemum43 Well done on two weeks! I'm going OK. Not much energy yet but sure that will come. Sleeping very well though! x

10 days (& 1.5lbs down!)

MagratGarlikInDisguise · 12/05/2021 07:52

Went to a party (outside, 2 fam7lies social distanced etc) on Sat and didn't drink. On Sunday, felt amazing to get up with a clear head! I meditated, did some yoga, read, and relaxed. Lost weight already! Tempted last night but had one of my relaxing teas instead! Oof it's hard isn't it!

RuLu · 21/05/2021 11:31

How is everyone getting on?

elp30 · 01/06/2021 09:32

Hello 👋🏼 Everyone!

This thread was started in May 1st and today is June 1st, a full month later.

How did everyone do?

I managed the full 31days AF and feeling okay. I will say that I did count every single day that passed. Every day seems to be a little bit too much of the same and I realized that I do drink out of boredom. Once this observation hit me, (around day 15 when I was VERY tempted to buy a bottle of wine), I've made a point of doing something, anything to take my mind off of drinking/not drinking. I've done necessary jobs in my house I have been putting off, I've walked loads, I bought a jump rope and find myself going to the garage for five minutes every couple of hours to jump and truly exhausted myself, went bowling, another day went to a big family golf driving range and tried to hit the ball, and went to the beach. I was busier this month than I've been in a while. That was a plus.

One thing this month off has done for me is that I did notice is how alcohol is everywhere. It was available at the bowling alley, the golf range, obviously at the beach, and it was interesting that I hadn't previously paid attention that my local grocery store devotes a very large space for beers and wine. I live in the US and in a state where liquor is not sold in the grocery stores. I couldn't imagine just how big the space would be if it could. I went out to dinner and the first thing the waitress asked was whether I'd like a margarita on the rocks or frozen with my Mexican meal "to start you off". I asked for water and she wasn't too thrilled. I suppose it's because alcohol does generate a higher bill and a bigger tip. Interestingly, she didn't automatically refill my water (its part of the service and I had to ask) but happily came to the neighboring table three times to ask if they wanted a refill for their beers. Sigh.

I am planning to continue this experiment for another month. Wish me luck! However, I'm having a cookout later today and that may be a little challenging for me. It's very hot where I live and having a cookout is usually when I break out the beers and ciders to cool down, the wine to accompany the burgers or the fruity drinks like piña coladas to enjoy with the music while the food is being cooked. Let's see how I do today.

I can't wait to hear your stories!

jan9876 · 08/06/2021 10:04

Hi Elp
Wow you have done amazing! it's amazing reading all the different things people end up doing when they aren't drinking, way more exciting things. It's motivating.
I am drinking every night nearly, a few glasses of wine. It gets out of control very quickly. I'm not going to quit but I am going to start with alcohol free days, will aim to drink 2 days of the week. And focus on doing other things as I think part of it is boredom. Need to switch up my routine a bit I think each night to help.
