Finding it so boring and drinking is the only fun

Lately I’m finding this whole lockdown and homeschooling so boring! Drinking is my way to relax and have fun. Wish I could stick to drinking only 3 days a week. At the moment it’s 4 days a week (most days half a bottle) and maybe the 4th day over the weekend will be more then a half as we will open a second bottle.

What does everyone else do for fun or to make things more enjoyable? By the end of the day I’m just exhausted. Homeschooling is so draining!

Eat 😣 it's one demon or the other

Mamabear12 · 04/02/2021 17:45

Lol. I don’t find eating as fun. And besides I can’t eat junk or my kids will whine and want some. And these days they are up until 9/10....they go to skew when I do. The only one sleeping at 6pm is the baby.

It's not easy. Watching 👀

It's not easy is it. I went 4 weeks without a drink in January but now slipping back to drinking 4 nights a week. I'm hoping to start exercising more when the days get longer, at the moment have no motivation to get up before the kids. Hopefully a health kick would help cut down drinking as well.

I get you're post 100%.

I'm drinking way too much. At first it's almost funny "tough day, gotta have a gin" but now I wake up feeling headachy and tired.

I'm hoping with the weather getting a bit better, getting out might be easier so relieve some of the daily stress. I'm also determined no alcohol for lent. I don't normally go in for lent abstinence on anything, but this year, it seems a good reason to anchor my plan.

I get your post OP. I’ve drunk one bottle of champagne since Christmas, though, basically broken my drinking habit. It’s been taking up running that’s made the difference. I’m also older and can’t cope with the after effects.

Elsia · 16/02/2021 07:44

Following with interest. Almost every night for me (maybe just a glass or two, but still not good). Hateful job. Homeschooling. Three year old. It is literally the only thing to look forward to. That’s why I do it.

Once the snow melts I’m going to try couch to 5k I am hopeful that will break the pattern because I am a hot mess just now.

Gave up for January and have now committed to Easter. I didn't expect it to get harder in February, I'm so over the shiny newness of not drinking - my skin does not look shiny and amazing and I'm bored and a wee bit stressed of an evening and the weight is not falling off - the only positive thing is the sleep - insomnia I do not miss you!

Woollysocksneeded · 16/02/2021 16:45

@Elsia I am exactly the same. I don't drink much in one go, usually 1-2 glasses, or even just half a glass. The absolute maximum is half a bottle. But I drink too often, before January almost daily. Hoping to start exercising again when it gets warmer and sunnier, and hopefully that will help me restrict my wine to 2-3 nights per week max. Aiming to drink one bottle/week, and use some of that for cooking as well.

@Namethatuser it was the same for me when I gave up wine in January.. No amazing weight loss, no great skin. I even took before and after photos and there was no difference.Sad There was also no difference to my sleep either based on my garmin. The only difference I noticed that I didn't get dry mouth at night. Guess that's something!

To me what you’re saying sounds absolutely fine. This is such an unusual situation and I don’t think there’s a lot wrong with coping in less than ideal ways

Grumpymom · 16/02/2021 21:52

As long as it’s not impacting you socially or functionally in any major way it’s probably fine. You can pull it back when things improve. This is unprecedented. The whole situation. I go weeks without drinking and then some days I end up drinking probably a bottle over 6-7 hours. It’s horrendous but i seem to be doing okay. I take breaks. I behave. It’s tough. But 1-2 glasses sounds a ok to me!
