Yes me! I’ve done dry jan much to my amazement and want to keep going xx

sicknote26 · 03/02/2021 23:28

Me too, managed dry January for the first time in years, I'm going to try and get to the end of March before I fall off the wagon. I needed a clear head home schooling.

tonystarksrighthand · 04/02/2021 04:32

I'm in Brew dry Jan and fitness goals met so onto February.

To many positives so far to just start again the same old shit!

Need to stay positive and focused.

Well done everyone

CrystalDeCanter · 04/02/2021 04:41

I'm trying to do this too, 4 days in so far. I didn't do dry Jan and am keen to have a alcohol break

iloveeverykindofcat · 04/02/2021 12:22

I will join you. I need to not drink for the forseeable future because whilst I was never a daily - or even weekly - drinker - I did tend to binge drink as a stress release. I don't feel right joining the permanently dry threads because I only messed up about 2 weeks ago, but my intention is to stay dry. Starting a new job next month so that should hopefully keep me focused!

tonystarksrighthand · 04/02/2021 15:43

@iloveeverykindofcat I'm exactly the same. I can go weeks and then a binge if I start.

I just need to not start!

iloveeverykindofcat · 04/02/2021 15:56

@tonystarksrighthand Same. It's never even worth it, the hangxiety afterwards is hell to pay!

whatisforteamum · 06/02/2021 17:03

Can I join in please.I was teetotal until 37 then drank in moderation around 6 units a week measured out.I am 54 now and don't want to drink out of habit.
Because i work with pple who drink loads I don't want it sneaking up on me.
I couldn't face dry jan so cut back to 2 units a week. Now for dry Feb and hopefully beyond.

Yellowfiledredfilled · 07/02/2021 13:26

Can I join? Was initially lurking on the other Dry Jan thread but I found the transition into Feb difficult having never done it before - with so many posters talking about their damp plans, it was making me quite uncomfortable and wishing I could join them which surprised me to be reacting that way - normally I don't care what other people do!
So planning to stay dry till Easter - mostly because weight needs to be lost and it's the easiest way to achieve it.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/02/2021 06:08

So how is everyone doing?

Yellowfiledredfilled · 12/02/2021 09:32

Still here - it's getting harder for me rather than easier, I've been doing this since 1 Jan. The novelty has well and truly worn off. I drink alcohol as a switch to relax - it's something to do. I have started having the odd alcohol free beer in the evening which helps, even a fizzy water with some orange bitters does the job.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/02/2021 11:21

I also do it to relax - mostly to relax around food. I've been anorexic on and off since I was thirteen and presently maintain a BMI that is slightly underweight but not dangerously so - I'm very invested in keeping healthcare professionals out of my life on that score. So unfortunately replacing alcohol with food or sugar treats isn't an option for me - that would be the opposite of relaxing.

Sounds complicated - it's hard to find the balance and be happy with it. I have had a history of disordered eating, I can't diet without triggering binge eating, I feel very lucky to have knocked it on the head twice now (thought I was cured the first time which was why the second time occurred and why I won't go there again). Giving up alcohol helps me lose weight without triggering the binge eating. My BMI is normal - so this is all purely for aesthetics but having a "normal" relationship with food and alcohol is what we all need.
iloveeverykindofcat · 12/02/2021 12:24

I'd settle for normal-er, but that would be nice ;). To be honest NHS treatment for anorexia is appalling....it makes me LOL everytime someone struggling with obesity writes on this site 'no-one would tell an anorexic to just eat more'.

Hahaha. Want to bet they wouldn't?

whatisforteamum · 12/02/2021 12:52

I've been anorexic twice dropping to a very low weight. It has been interesting that I cut back by two thirds in jan now I will do dry Feb I've lost 2 lbs even though I didn't drink much I've lost the bloated feeling.
It has been easier than I thought tbh.
