Subbing alcohol for chocolate

I'm 10 months sober but find myself creeping into same addiction habits with chocolate. The hiding, binge etc. So pleased I'm sober - but am aware of the dangers of subbing one for the other (and the horrid weight gain!)

Would love some advice. Is there an equivalent of The Unexpected Joy of being Sober as I found that v helpful.

I’m the same. 7 months AF and I’m now shovelling in chocolate like you wouldn’t believe! I was fine about having sugar cravings when I first went AF, it’s to be expected, but I did get a grip on it for a few months. Not sure if it’s the change in weather & needing comfort food but my cholesterol will be through the roof if this carries on.
I’m managing to keep the weight in check because I log everything on My Fitness Pal but I’m actually subbing real food for chocolate. I ate a 660 calorie family sized chocolate bar to myself the other night instead of having dinner Blush
Watching with interest in case anyone comes on with some tips. Congrats on your 10 months AF.

Thx and you too! I have had the odd (!) day of just eating chocolate instead of food! X

Do you have it when you would normally have a drink? Of an evening to unwind from the day??

No I have it during the day as a 'treat!' But definitely still my addict brain speaking as I hide my stash!
Am eating less which is good x

This resonates in a shocking way. I have replaced alcohol with chocolate. I slowly stopped drinking when pregnant and bf 11 years or so ahoand never really started again.Kast drink was Christmas Day 2015. Now can't tolerate it in anything, even boozy trifle. But you've just made me realise, I replaced the crutch of wine with lots of chocolate, and reassured myself that it was better than drinking...but the behaviours you highlight here are me...hiding it especially. Massive weight gain..one side effect. Any advice?Just stop doesn't work as Ive said this to myself many times.

With me it's all about habit. I've managed to stop eating chocolate after supper (by not having any in the house) but still have my treat after lunch. I'm trying to reduce the quantity - as want I really like is the initial comfort! Hardly rocket science for me - and I do need to get a grip with the weight!

I'm the same and I'm over three years sober. I try to be kind to myself and am very fit and healthy apart from the sugar/chocolate.

I run, meditate, journal, sleep well...I'd love to hear more from others who are facing this challenge.

And every day that I don't drink is a major achievement Smile
