I’m really sorry. That sounds awful. I don’t have any advice other than checking you have support for yourself? Have you been in touch with Alanon and/or Nacoa?

@AFitOfTheVapours no - i've been hesitant as it feels silly to need support but i probably should, i did check once and there were no in real life (pre covid) meetings near where i live

OP so sorry to hear this. That's awful for you and her. It's not at all silly to need support, this is a devastating diagnosis to be processing.. even if you can't get to a face to face meeting Zoom meetings are a very credible compromise until they start up again

Would this be Korsacoff dementia? As an ex nurse I remember nursing a man in his early 50's with this. He lived in his own world and used to make up stories which he genuinely believed. He was in hospital as he needed accommodation due to spending all his money on alcohol. He was obviously at a stage where he was ''in the system'' and had a social worker. Perhaps you could ask your GP as a starter to point you in the right direction for where to go for support. Does she live alone? Does she own her own property? You may need to arrange who has Power of Attorney to assist with future decisions. I'm sorry if this isn't much help. I feel for you and hope you get support. It's so easy to say get a social worker involved but the practicalities of that is very difficult especially as she is so young. X
