Any good alcohol free wines anyone can recommend? Red or white, something that tastes very similar to the real thing I'm currently breastfeeding and I often crave the taste of wine especially when I have a bath in the evening

I haven't tried many as generally reviews are poor, I like a rich spicy full bodied shiraz and I bought Sainsbury's Merry Berry non alcoholic mulled winter Berry punch this weekend and it's really nice, warmed 30secs in microwave, it's not sweet, so it tastes sophisticated and the mulled spices gives it some body so it's reminiscent of a shiraz

I’ve been searching in vain for a decent alcohol-free wine and have found none that actually taste like wine.

I’ve given up now and have a range of fizzy drinks that I drink in a wine glass. I like the botanical ones like Fentimans which have a good dry taste but they’re more reminiscent of a G and T

I tried quite a few on their own for a while and they were all awful (esp considering the price of some Shock)
This won’t help anybody who wants to avoid alcohol altogether, but I’ve found that Tesco’s own brand alcohol-free cab sauv, diluted (approx) 50/50 with water, & then added (approx) 50/50 to whatever red you prefer, makes a pretty acceptable drink - still tastes nicely winey Smile
I keep the diluted bottles in the fridge.
Undiluted red always tastes much too strong to me now Grin

GiantKitten · 22/11/2020 22:54

Oh it’s not cab sauv, it’s cab tempranillo

When I was pregnant with DC1 I bought a whole case of different ones from a specialist online stockist, all quite dear. None were like the real thing. Now I’m pregnant with DC2 I’m sticking with non alcoholic gin and beer.

I think you can have some wine while bf, though. No need to pump and dump. Eg www.formodernmothers.com/blog/breastfeeding-myth-wine

Never found a good Alcohol free wine, Alcohol free Koppaberg was nice though.

There is plenty of low alcohol wines worth trying, but obviously no good if you need alcohol free.

Firefliess · 22/11/2020 23:11

They all taste like fruit juice in my experience. Alcohol free beer's not bad though.

demichristinaa · 23/11/2020 15:00

Ahh okay guys I thought that was the case, most reviews do say they're not that great however the Mary Berry one from Sainsbury's does sound nice I'll give that a try x

I’ve tried quite a few and can’t say you’d confuse any for real wine. Overall, the reds are very fruit juicy and the whites tend to be way too sweet. Of all I’ve found the rose to be the best - still generally too sweet but when chilled icy cold they are surprisingly drinkable.

yesterdaystotalsteps123 · 27/11/2020 19:02

I agree, Sainsbury's rose is not a million miles from a sweet rose and chilled in a wine glass you can kid yourself... I've got their fizz for tonight, I enjoy it and it helps with the cravings, again I have it in my nicest champagne glass

I prefer alcohol free beers (and I am not even a beer drinker normally!). But the beer with a dash of lime cordial is a great replacement on alcohol free days for me.

Iris5543 · 17/12/2020 06:48

I quite liked the Merry Berry but you need to add cinnamon, ginger etc to it.
Ikea do an AF mulled punch that is really good.
Agree with above kobberberg and all of the AF beers are great.
