Hello,
I am wondering if anybody can help with some clarity on the real risk and chance of a baby developing FAS. There is so many confusing messages around this subject online. Just how much alcohol would someone need to drink to damage a baby. I ask as I didn't find out till I was over halfway through pregnancy and I drink and smoked until then (a bottle and a half on wine weekly) on an evening. Scans are all ok but I am wondering if I have done damage. I am wondering if anyone works in this field or has experienced anything similar with their pregnancy. Please help I'm so anxious and cannot enjoy my pregnancy Sad

Have you spoken to your midwife about this? You will get lots of anecdotal evidence one way or another but there is very little know about FAS and alcohol levels because a) people who have drunk throughout pregnancy tend do downplay how many units they have consumed so the data is not accurate and b) you clearly cannot conduct and actual experiment on this for ethical and moral reasons.

The chances are everything will be fine, but I suspect you won’t know one way or another for a while.

Thank you for your response. Yes I did say I was worried to midwife and she basically said you'd have to been drinking a huge amount of alcohol daily (that if a chronic alcoholic) to raise the risks of this.

Then I think you have to trust the professionals that your levels of drinking doesn’t raise a concern for them Flowers
