I’m drinking 3000 calories a week 😖

Downloaded a drinking app as I want to reduce my intake and actually manage a few booze free days in a week. I’ve struggled to be honest or accurately input the amount I’m drinking as it does vary, but the reality is I’m drinking at least 5 bottles of wine a week. Sometimes more (few gins). I want need to cut down.

I’m now overweight and my mental health hasn’t been great (depression and anxiety, although I haven’t sought treatment for it). I’ve been stepping up the exercise but ‘wondering’ why the weight isn’t moving but it’s abundantly clear why not.

Looking for a place I can be accountable to myself and maybe others who also want to reduce without judgement. Today will be a booze free day. I’m determined, even though the craving is kicking in in a major way.

No idea, but I dont think you / we are unusual in the slightest!

CH79 · 20/09/2020 12:57

@lottapianos glad to hear that! 😂

I’m late 30s and not sure whether it’s my hangovers worsening or whether it’s just that I drink wine now and got a real taste for it!

I think a lot depends on how hydrated I am during the day. If I’m dehydrated and drink a bottle of wine or more I also get the awful wake up 4am with the worst anxiety and self loathing.

Happy to report I’ve had a better week booze wise. I’m probably still drinking 20-25 units but it’s a huge reduction from what I am drinking. I’ve ramped up the exercise too. Still lots more to do but feels like a start.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Morning all.
Had a rubbish nights sleep & feeling quite anxious.
All common for me after a night of drinking.
It's becoming that the night of drinking isn't worth the feelings afterwards. 😔
Any tips to shake these feelings?

So glad I found this thread.
I thought I was becoming an alcoholic during lockdown.

Now that I am back at work 3 days per week I have stopped drinking the nights that I need to drive in the morning for work.

Today I haven't had a drink since Friday night.
Normally I would drink a bottle if not more during an evening and feel like absolute shit the next day.

I cannot have only one glass, I have to finish the bottle and quite often will start on another until I know I have had enough to be drunk.
I feel really good today as I haven't had a wine for 2 nights.
Will stay on this thread for the support.

I am glad that it's not only me going through this.

@CH79 plenty of water, or an isotonic drink, a brisk walk outside (even if you feel like you can’t be bothered). Or tick off some chores. Always feel that helps get rid of my low level hangover anxiety.

Walking for anxiety is probably the best choice I’ve found, I like to put a positive podcast on or a audio of some chick lit that I can absorb myself into whilst getting a good brisk walking pace on. .. on the wine front last week I did about 2 1/2 bottles of wine and I’m pleased with that it’s a step in the right direction as far as I’m concerned

I think this is a good positive thread for us winos lol

I’ve just had a large glass of wine to take the edge off a rubbish Monday at work. Have stopped after one though. Kettle will be on for a night time tea in a bit!

I think that’s the key for us, is to have that good large glass and enjoy it and consciously stop like you have done tonight. That’s what I have been trying to do ( with the exception of sat night )

Youngatheart00 · 21/09/2020 20:36

Yep. I agree, it’s nice to get that release and division between the working day and the evening but no hangover the next day!

Hey @Youngatheart00, Well done for reducing. I don’t your story (haven’t read the whole thread) but I highly highly recommend quitting altogether, even if just for a while.

6 months ago I was probably drinking similar. I tried reducing a few times (and managed) but honestly I didn’t feel the benefits till I stopped completely (nearly 6 months now!).

I used to love drinking for all the reasons you did, and I never imagined I could be happy without alcohol. But I am so, so much happier now. I don’t even miss drinking!!! I am fitter, calmer, richer (!), thinner, look better, am a better mum... The list goes on. I know there never seems to be a good time to stop, but honestly, if you could just try it for a while, you’ll realise there’s a whooole booze free world out there, and that you can and deserve to feel amazing. Good luck to you.

Youngatheart00 · 25/09/2020 08:58

Took it too far last night and drank a whole bottle and didn’t eat either. Splitting headache, nausea and a whole day of work ahead. I am an idiot 😭

Don’t be too hard on yourself it only adds a dollop of self loathing on top of feeling shitty. You just have to write it off and start again
