I'm so tired. I'm sleeping all the time. I've been dry for a week now.

Days just seem to be a blur of work/children/housework with no reward at the end of the day. I'm bored and down.

How do people enjoy life without drink or a few spliffs in the evening.

I like food but I'm not going to get satisfaction from eating. I like cooking and eating but the eating bit I don't really get a thrill from and don't have a sweet tooth.

What can I do to reward myself in the evening?

Music is the thing I really enjoy. I put on songs that really lift my mood and dance about.

I also enjoy my tv programmes and look forward to downloading stuff I enjoy.

I have hobbies, some of which are indoors like crafting stuff that I can do. I make bracelets and stuff and put them by for Christmas presents for my friends. That keeps me busy. Outside I do pots I’m my garden. Enjoy the flowers and looking at things I’ve created or nurtured makes me happy when I’m about down or bored.

@RainbowBalloon I don't know. I wish I did.

Well done on quitting though.

You’re doing great , try to think back to what you enjoyed doing before drink was your crutch - reading , good tv , music even crafting of some sort. You will still be adjusting , your body in a peridot of recovery so just be kind to yourself and patient

Oh, @mrsbyers, the autocorrect on your post has given me the name of a gemstone I've been trying to remember for days! Hurray!

You are probably sleeping a lot because your body is healing and repairing itself.
Could you try phoning someone you love in the evening? A good friend or family member? Or get out for a walk or something with someone who lifts your spirits?

SoftBlocks · 05/07/2020 14:19

Well done! Comedy on Netflix?

Hangingover · 05/07/2020 14:39

Good job. It does get easier!

RainbowBalloon · 05/07/2020 14:43

Thanks, I hope it's my body healing.

I do enjoy a lot of the things mentioned above but with a drink.

I love gardening (stoned)
I love crafts (with a drink)
Netflix (both!)

I've got to relearn to enjoy things in the raw.

I am a removing alcoholic 10 years sober. I found I had to find new hobbies to do at first so I didn't have the drink association and then after a while I went back to doing the stuff I used to do but the habit of drinking alongside had been broken. Well done and good luck!

@RainbowBalloon I drink that much or more...every now and then I have a week off and I have noticed that I feel really worn out for a good few days after I have stopped. Im just about the stop again, hopefully for longer, so I know I need to plan for a tired, low energy week. I stopped for a few months a couple of years ago and my energy levels did pick up after a couple of weeks and I felt great. Not sure why I started drinking again tbh Confused

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/07/2020 15:22

I think it’s your body craving the sugar that booze gave you. You say you don’t have a sweet tooth but I’d try to replace the sugar with something else short term until you’re further along the no booze route.
