Can someone offer advice please. Someone I love needs an AA meeting.

I can see online there are some zoom ones, are these any good? Is there any face to face meetings at all right now?

We're in east of England, Peterborough/Stamford area.

Thank you

Hi OP
Hopefully someone involved with AA will be along to give you better advice but I didn’t want to leave your post hanging. If you have someone who’s willing to go to AA it’s sometimes a short window of opportunity.

As far as I know, all the meetings are still on zoom, but I guess that might start changing soon. AA have a helpline and would be worth a call. They could probably put you in touch with someone from your local groups who could help guide you through what to do.

Good luck

Thank you @AFitOfTheVapours I will have a look for that number. We've been here before unfortunately a few years ago and never thought we would have to do it again.

May have to be zoom for now which is better than nothing

The meetings are all online at the moment but its so easy to use, and probably less nerve wracking than walking into The Rooms the first time. If you go onto the AA site, you can find a list of all the meetings that are going on each day.

Hopefully this link works - its for all online meetings;

I've only started going to AA since lockdown but its been a lifesaver for me. However, everyone has been so welcoming and kind, and so willing to help. I'm three weeks sober tomorrow.

I didn't go to my "home" group for a couple of weeks, but have been to meetings all around the country and everyone is brilliant.

I hope you can get them to have a look at the groups. You don't even have to work the program at the moment, Ive just been going to meetings everyday and will find a sponsor and start the program when things are back to face to face. One day at a time.

Angbunnyboo Congratulations on your three week sobriety!

OP, I'm in AA. Meetings are just starting to discuss starting face to face meetings again but I don't know any that have started yet.

Zoom meetings offer all the support of any other AA meeting. We are always welcoming to a newcomer!

You can contact AA by phone or email:

Wishing the best of luck to your loved on. I hope they get to meeting soon.

Also as this obviously affects you, have you looked into Al-Anon for yourself?

Thank you everyone that's some really useful information, we're going to look into that. Im glad to hear zoom meetings are helpful and work well, as wasn't sure if they were successful or not

All meetings are still on zoom, all the literature is available free online too. If they say st the meeting they are new usually they will hold the zoom meeting open at the end so that people can share numbers. This is for the newcomer to get emotional support, have someone to call when they are tempted to drink, ask questions about how AA works and get a sponsor. It is suggested that a newcomer listen to the similarities of the stories, not the differences, and women stick with women, men with men,
