For anyone struggling, I hope to give you hope....
Two years ago tonight I drank 2.5 bottles of white wine. It was the last time I had a drink.
Four months earlier I had done something similar and things came to a head, plus I knocked a tooth out falling into a wall (alone at the time).
After the tooth incident and finally admitting that I was an alcoholic and needed help, I stopped, joined AA and started recovery. I relapsed three times between October 17 and Feb 18.
But as of today I am 2 years sober.
Previous to stopping, I averaged up to 6 or more bottles a week, with Saturdays being a min of two bottles to MYSELF.
So, if you are reading this and think you need help, tell someone you trust, some of my close friends already had an idea I was somewhat reliant on alcohol, I also found AA a great help (although I no longer go to meetings).
This particular section of MN is also incredibly supportive.

Well done OP. I’ve realised that ive got bit of a problem and tonight, even with a completely shit day I’m not having a drink.

@Rupertpenrysmistress. I do a bit. Especially at Christmas and on holiday. Plus the works Christmas do was dull and I was home by 9.45pm. Apart from those occasions, it never crosses my mind now.

Do you feel better for it? I mean, has your health, metal clarity etc improved?

maddiemookins16mum · 26/02/2020 17:01

@RedDiamond yes, 100%. I actually have really good mental health now. I can think clearly without a haze of alcohol induced anxiety, guilt etc.
