He has been on a terrible two week binge, but stopped on friday
last night he saw all sorts of things,
and woke me at 5.30 this morning still seeing things, people in the garden, people looking through the window with guns.
it is frightening
i have made him breakfast and a cup of tea and told him to go to bed and am considering getting vitamin B1
anyone been through anything similar

years ago he saw spiders and then had a fit, while on antabuse.

This is something you need to seek medical attention for, pretty urgently.

PurpleDaisies · 02/12/2019 08:01

I should have worded it more strongly. You need to telephone him to a and e now.

cultkid · 02/12/2019 08:04

GP Emergency appt

Withdrawal from alcohol can be so dangerous as well as unpleasant

PurpleDaisies · 02/12/2019 08:07

This is more than a GP appointment. Sudden onset confusion with a history of alcohol abuse and sudden withdrawal is an emergency. The GP won’t have the right treatment. He needs to go to a and e. It would be appropriate to call an ambulance here.

PurpleDaisies · 02/12/2019 08:11

The fact he has had a seizure and hallucinations before means he is at high risk of it happening again and it could be worse this time because of something called the kindling effect.

You absolutely have to go to A and E. He could die. I used to work in this field. Get help.

Apolloanddaphne · 02/12/2019 08:14

I agree with pp. You need to get him seen urgently. Alcohol thdrawal can be very dangerous.

changeforprivacy · 02/12/2019 08:15

You need A&E not Vitamins

Please call, at the very least drop a call to 111 - they will take the decision for you fry really don't fee sure he needs A&E

EleanorReally · 02/12/2019 08:15

the seizure was 25 years ago

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 02/12/2019 08:16

He is quite possibly having an alcohol withdrawal induced psychotic break.

A&E. Now.

MoonlightBonnet · 02/12/2019 08:18

You really need to seek emergency help. This is not something you or MN can manage.

tmh88 · 02/12/2019 08:18

Yes he needs a&e seizures can happen from DTs unfortunately! If he’s binged that long his body will be having major withdrawals with nothing it’s better to wean down.

PurpleDaisies · 02/12/2019 08:19

That doesn’t matter.

Ring 111 or 999 for advice if you like. This is a medical emergency.

EleanorReally · 02/12/2019 10:03

Thanks waiting for ambulance @purple

Well done. Hope he recovers quickly and gets help for the drinking. Flowers

HuggedTrees · 02/12/2019 10:08

Well done for phoning the ambulance. It is understandable that you posted here in the hope someone would give you the push to tell you it is ok to do so. Hoping he gets the help he needs to not have any bad outcomes from today and keep off the alcohol long term

EleanorReally · 02/12/2019 10:40

I was hoping not to have to make the call but he is on his way now

puds11 · 02/12/2019 12:24

How is he OP? How are you?

EleanorReally · 02/12/2019 17:14

well they gave him diazepam and told him not to go cold turkey, i guess they assessed some how or other

OP posts:
HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 02/12/2019 18:07

Diazepam is standard for alcohol withdrawal, how many days worth does he have? He needs to see the GP for alcohol services. Cold turkey is so dangerous.

Friend of mine has been sober for 5 years. It’s a rough road.

Bodear · 02/12/2019 18:54

How are you OP? Do you have kids?

EleanorReally · 02/12/2019 18:58

My kids are in their twenties, I am pretty tired, but at least ambulance men said he should go, even if hospital appeared too busy to help much, less worried though which is good, thanks
