90 Days Sober Today!

cherrytreeblossom · 08/08/2019 09:19

Over the years Ive posted in this forum under various names asking for support with my wine habit!

I finally did something about it 90 days ago (started going to AA meetings)

And life is so much better.

Just wanted to share that to those struggling, it is possible.

I used to struggle to go without for a single day!

Good for you!

MarriedAndTired · 08/08/2019 09:29

Congratulations!! Tell us all the good changes you have noticed after stopping? I want to know Flowers

CrazylazyJane · 08/08/2019 09:30

Well done. It's something I'm still grappling with.

ParkheadParadise · 08/08/2019 09:31

Well done cherrytreeblossom

Positive changes

My depression has all but disappeared
Still some anxiety but I think that is facing life without the numbing effect of alcohol and takes some time
Made a couple of very good friends within the AA
I wake up naturally at about 650am every morning and get up and be productive - its crazy how much i get done now. Housework, gardening, washing, admin etc all seems to take care of its self!
Ive lost 8lbs without dieting, in fact ive spent 90 days having anything i wanted as a reward for not drinking.
The craving for a drink has almost gone - every now and then i get a passing thought, but thats it
Im working through the steps of the programme and it feels really good that im addressing all of those resentments and fears and things ive done wrong over the years.
I was taking medication for acid reflux, no longer take it.
I have gained an extra day every weekend - week in week out id lose either or saturday or sunday due to a hangover.
I will never EVER get bored of waking up feeling fresh every day.
Some days I feel so good I am almost high!

Negatives
Im not very good yet at accepting and sitting with negative feelings, so used to drowning them out - i still try and run away from them, or panic.
Some friendships have changed.
Moods can be fragile
Feels a bit like a rollercoaster at times
Cant think of any more!

Thank you for the list and well done Flowers

rupertpenryswife · 08/08/2019 11:58

Congratulations that is fantastic. I am 2 weeks into the journey and it's great to hear the positives. One question how do you cope in situations where there might be drink? Such as celebrations, meals out etc. That is one thing that worries me.

TheVoiceInTheShed · 08/08/2019 19:31

That's fantastic cherrytreeblossom!
I bet you look younger too, I lost that puffy face and bleary eyes look Smile
Not wanting to hijack but in answer to Rupert it gets so much easier in time, it is actually quite entertaining but sometimes boring as hell watching others get sloshed and talking nonsense when you are out.

Have you found some people trying to get you to drink again Cherrytree? I found it shocking and disappointing my sister tried to get me to start again THREE times before giving up

that's fantastic ! I only managed 5 days last week then binged. I'm trying again today and hope I can write a success post like yours in 90 days

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 20/08/2019 09:58

Congratulations. It can only get better. It will get better. I celebrated 30 years sober in April (did an AMA on it). It's been a wonderful experience and I'm so grateful for my sobriety, which has been the root of everything good in my life.

rupertpenryswife · 23/08/2019 09:21

prawn I have just read your amazing thread, what an inspiring read, you have done so well thank you for sharing.

I am just 25 days sober but, feel the best I have ever felt, it was so freeing to finally decide not to moderate but to quit for good. Long may it last.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/08/2019 02:27

There are lots of rather cheesy sayings in AA, rupertpenryswife but they're all true. The two I'd recommend at your stage are "stay in the day" (because thinking too far ahead can be discouraging) and "keep coming back - it works if you work it". Spending time with other sober alcoholics is very reinforcing. We share our experience, strength and hope. It's a truly amazing experience. Gratitude can work what feels like miracles.

I need to keep reading these stories to convince myself I will be able to cope with daily stresses without wine.
It must feel incredible to be free!

rupertpenryswife · 31/08/2019 16:12

It honestly never gets old. Waking up with no guilt or hangover I love it. Highly recommended.
