What to drink instead?

I want to cut right back as getting into the habit of drinking every evening. I like wine (esp red) and G&T. I see it as a treat so want to replace with something nice too - I quite like tonic on its own but what else? Ideas please.

I'd love to have some suggestions. I don't like sweet drinks & am v sensitive to caffeine so Diet Coke is out after lunchtime. I do like sparkling water & should try tonic on its own. I love lager but when pregnant didn't like the AF lagersConfused

Robinson’s do a mint and lime cordial in a glass bottle. Added to tonic with fresh lime/mint it’s very g&t like

CardinalCat · 24/04/2019 22:03

My local Tesco does alcohol free H&M in a can and it's absolutely fine!! The af red wine I have tried has been unanimously dreadful, I'm afraid, and this is the only thing I've missed in three weeks of being af.

CardinalCat · 24/04/2019 22:05

That should read g&t not H&M!!

I love Bundaberg ginger beer (the slightly round brown bottle with the ring pull top), Fentimans drinks (dandelion & burdock, rose lemonade etc), Schweppes bitter lemon, root beer, cloudy lemonade, fruit juice, elderflower drinks...

Anything that's not just mimicking an alcohol taste / has quality and flavour on its own will satisfying rather than like a pretend drink

Snowglobes · 24/04/2019 23:23

Thanks for these- I agree that the pretend versions just seem lacking & better to have a drink with a different taste. In Oz lemonade with a dash of lime cordial and a dash of angostura bitters is quite popular. Albeit the angostura is alcohol but it’s literally a couple of drops - it’s called ‘lemon, lime & bitters’ and usually a pint or a half. Really nice ... but don’t try asking for it here as pubs think you mean a bitter as in beer!

Tonic with angostura and a dash of lime is a good fake g&t.

Have you tried Seedlip? It's a botanical non alcoholic spirit they have a load of non alcoholic cocktail recipes on their website. It's quite a good substitute for G&T. I sometimes make my own rhubarb syrup and mix it with a strong ginger beer, it's got a proper kick to it reminiscent of alcohol Wink

AsleepAllDay · 25/04/2019 08:39

@Snowglobes I love lemon lime and bitters! They have no idea what that is here haha, you're right

Snowglobes · 25/04/2019 09:22

Ooh dancingbadger that sound fab!! Love rhubarb gin! I’ll be checking out the website albeit I’m not wanting sugary syrups as part of reason for cutting back the booze is to get rid of the belly!!

Seedlip is slimiest as expensive as gin?!’

DeadDoorpost · 28/04/2019 17:45

I don't drink but we always have Shloer at events, and fancy cordial etc.
