Hi I am a bit nervous about writing this but I’m drinking a lot. My husband left last year and I have 3 children. I used to drink Friday and Saturday night but now it’s 5 nights a week and probably a bottle of wine each night. It’s also habit and I find evenings boring and I cant sit and relax.
I’ve realised I want to cut down, I’ve just started reading the Jason’s vale book

hello, just wanted to say 'hi' as i've now been 2 weeks without drinking and toying with the idea of fulltime but not very confident in myself right now. Well done for admitting you drink a lot, it's a hard admission. It IS a habit, an addiction and knowing we should do something doesn't always mean we will. otherwise, there wouldn't be forums like this or books out there on the subject xxx I've just started reading the Unexpected Joy of Being Sober which i downloaded last night.

'Wanting to do something' is an excellent start as is knowing you should. The really hard bit comes next, finding out how. I've tried 'cutting down' before and i've also tried just drinking 'non alcy versions of wine' etc and both these things have not worked out for me - but they may work out for YOU. I thought having a wine glass in my hand with a low alcohol fizz would continue to give me that feeling of being 'adult' and having 'grown up time' - it didn't. I just wanted 'real' wine more.

So anyway, hi to you.... perhaps try some of the newer low alcohol wines - Tesco do a fizz version in rose and white that looks like the real deal for much less money naturally.

Oh and i'm getting a very clean house right now as i'm constantly doing things to take my mind off sitting with a glass of wine. I associate sitting down in the evening with drinking and trying to break all my habits at the moment to get me through first bit.
xxxxx

Hi I’ve only just seen your replies!
Ok so today I have decided that’s it. I have thought of non alcoholic fizzy drinks in a wine glass which I think would work for me.
I’ve got the Jason vale book which I’m currently reading but finding it hard to get into x

Hi there, pretty much the same here. I've been AF for 60 days after too many years of wine o'clock.

I've got Audible and have literally listened to every 'going sober' audio there available. 2 books that stand out for me especially from a female POV are Annie Grace "This Naked Mind" and Claire Pooley "Diary of a Sober Mummy". Highly recommend a read/listen.

FeverTree tonics are the best replacement drinks I've found so far. Especially served in a wine glass with ice and slice. I don't like sweet drinks so they're a good alternative.

I didnt intend to go permanently AF but liking life more and more without booze Smile
