Advice regarding my alcoholic father

Since my mum and dad got divorced twenty odd years ago my df has steadily drunk more and more. We've tried tears and pleading, practical advice and support but he will not even try to give ut up. He is incredibly thin now and barely eats at all. Over the last year his legs have become incredibly weak and will just give way. He cannot walk much at all now. Does anyone have experience with this? Will his legs just give up completely? I fear he will habe to go into a home doon which be will hate. He's a very private person and sufferers from anxiety so worries alot.

I am sorry OP Flowers It's very traumatic watching a loved one drink themselves into illness.

It could be any number of alcohol related illnesses causing your Dad's leg weakness

One or two of them is due to a shortage of essential vitamins and minerals caused by the alcohol which diminishes them....

Will he see a doctor? There are some supplements which might help in the short term but long term, unless he stops drinking...which is probably unlikely, then he will continue to go downhill.

Thank you for your reply. He has previouslt been to the doctors ut they only gave him vitamin d tablets, he said the doctors said they cant do anything else. I know he's not getting the vitamin and minerals he needs as he barely eats. His memory had also started to become quite bad.
Your right, its very unlikely he'll give up but now we're faced with what will happen to him once he loses the use of his legs. He'll probably have to go into a care home.
