Would I sound ridiculously sentimental if I say I had a lump in my throat? How did my baby get old enough to go to nursery school and ned a packed lunch? And how is it that despite not being around for the first year of his three years that I feel anxious about his move out into to wider world without me or his Nan or his CM metaphorically holding his hand.

I feel like one of those suffocating mothers who thinks that only she can look afetr her child adequately and keeping him tied to my leg for the next 15 years (though my office might find that a bit odd)

Aw, I can TOTALLY understand this.

I had a few tears in my eye ironing on DS's name tapes etc.

BUT I must take exception to TTTE being described as "common" Kristina. I'll have you know that Ds has a Thomas snackbox and there is no chavvy Gregg's sausage roll in sight

hey ONM - met up with a friend who lives in Singapore last week (home on holiday) who has links with Sanctuary (?) House who arrange private fostering and adoption. If you're interested CAT me and I'll let you have her email address.

Also are you UK citizens? Did you have a problme adopting wihtout a guarantee of citizenship from the UK?

Kew -- wrt the information you get, yes par for the course.

"What did you do at nursery/school today?"
"Nothing"
"Who did you play with at playtime?"
"Don't know"
"What did you have for lunch"
"Can't remember"
"Did you enjoy yourself?"
"it was okay."

Boys are particularly bad for this, be warned.

Awww, just wait until his first day in school uniform.

DS has a Power Rangers lunchbox btw, which was a special treat for starting reception in September. I did think that I might be judged for having an inappropriately violent and tasteless lunchbox, but on his first day 5 of the other 9 boys in the class had the exact same one.

You will never really know what he gets up to at school. DS manages do do "nothing" from 9am to 3pm these days.

Def a huge difference with girls and boys. DS also manages to do nothing even if he is at nursery 9.15 - 3.30, dd on the other hand tends to give me a minute by minute account of the day wether I want to now or not!

KristinaM · 14/01/2009 12:32

we have two boys in nursery - one has a power ranger lunchbox and on the first day we were given a rule book which forbids power rangers toys and games. didnt mention lunchboxes though as DS1 woudl be heartbroken

DS2 is same age as kew's LO and is OBSESSED by TTTE. eg he doesnt use the normal names for colours, he uses the names of the trains eg blue for thomas, green for percy and henry, etc

so if you offer him a yellow plate or a pink one he will answer " Molly"

if he wont eat his veg you can persuade him by saying " the fat controller always eats his peas"

weird

Have CAT'd you Kew (and finally found out what "CAT" stands for!). We're OK to adopt Singaporean child as already has Singapore nationality, but we can't bring in a foreign baby for adoption as the UK govt don't guarantee citizenship as the S'pore govt are worried they'd be "left" with the child, I guess.

In fact DS's British passport came through quite quickly (5 months) once we'd established what we had to do (High Comm were clueless).
