Whatever your situation, I hope today is kind to you. I'm always a bit ambivalent myself.

I just came on to write a similar message @UnderTheNameOfSanders dealing with a very disregulated little fellow here today .

Heading off swimming shortly!

hope that whatever today brings for everyone there are some little moments to treasure!

Despite struggling today my wonderful lo has just chosen to wipe his own bum for the first time and I’m taking that!!!! 😂😍

Ted27 · 30/03/2025 09:35

@Seahorsesplendour I wonder if he was planning that as a special present 🤔😀
Strange one for me. First time since I've become a mum that I've been on my own.
My boy is away at uni.
Last year I had a foster child with me. This week my current foster child left in very difficult circumstances so quite frankly I'm glad of the peace and quiet. It's a nice day so I'm going to the allotment and gym.
My boy sent me a lovely box of bath bombs so will enjoy one of those later

Seahorsesplendour · 30/03/2025 09:53

I did wonder myself he made a big deal of asking me to not be in the bathroom then coming and announcing it!! 🤭 fabulous moments these little people give us!! 😍

@Ted27 It must be strange for you!

Sorry it’s been a tough week!

It sounds like you have a lovely day planned! I hope you enjoy the sunshine & the bath!! 💖

I have had flowers and a card from eldest who is married.
Nothing yet from younger one but I know a card and chocolates have been bought.

However married one has changed their first name to something very unusual and even though original name came from birth family I am struggling to deal with it, and so if feels like the card was signed by a stranger not the child I brought up.

I’d take that as a win @Seahorsesplendour. my two are at their dads this morning, I know he’s organised dinner later and DS asked what kind of things I’d like for mothers Day, DD will be all last minute but it’ll be lovely. They’ve both really got into making days special as much as they’re able to.

In the meantime I’m having a cup of tea, watching tv with the dog.

@Ted27 enjoy your day, you do incredible work with your fosterlings though I guess it doesn’t always feel that way.

I had a lovely cuddle from youngest which is more than I could have hoped for from a 12 year old boy!
Been a sticky week here but we are just enjoying the sunshine in the garden and laughing at the dogs woeful attempt to scare off a pigeon on the shed roof!
Eldest is a let's pretend it's not mothers day kind of boy which is totally fine and even tried not to laugh at dog, cracked a semi smile!

I have had cards from my teen boys (one even had a thoughtful message written inside!) and they are making me bacon sandwiches for tea - my ultimate comfort food.

We have always been fairly low key, so am pleased with my lot!

We don't really celebrate in our house but we've had a lovely day and even managed an ALDI shop, both girls were very keen to be helpful which obviously meant it was 10x harder for me. But we all left smiling and shared a Cadbury button Easter egg we bought as a treat.

@Ted27 I post here occasionally and am often struck by both your wisdom and your willingness to re-do the teen years supporting our most vulnerable children. Your plans for today sound lovely, especially now the sun is out; hope you enjoyed some much deserved rest.

@Jellycatspyjamas @Beetham @Seahorsesplendour

Thank you for your kind words, I had a lovely day all on my own, not thinking about last Sunday when all the drama hit. I bought myself a cake from a local cafe and had it in the sunshine at the allotment with the Robins eyeing it up. I planted some spuds, cornflowers and poppies.
@UnderTheNameOfSanders

A long time ago my boy decided he wanted to change his very lovely African name to Geoff. Now personally I couldn't see it myself - you don't get many 9 year old black boys called Geoff. I told him he would need to be 60 and play golf to be called Geoff. He of course couldn't see the joke. He was quite adament about it for a long time. Eventually we agreed that if he still felt the same way at 18 I'd help him change it. He forgot about Geoff eventually. Buy now he is intent on dropping the African part of his surname. I feel that he might regret this in future but he has been consistent on this since he was about 15. I think when he's finished uni he might do it. I will be sad if he does.
So names are very powerful things aren't they. They are so closely associated with the person, enmeshed in your memory. It's the name given by birth family which you chose to keep. Do you feel in some way it's a rejection of you or something entirely separate to do with them.
Either way I hope in time you can find a way to reconcile the child you brought up to this 'new' adult.

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 31/03/2025 18:10

@Ted27 Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I think it is more to do with her, and reinventing herself. And I know she has a right to do this. However it feels as if she hasn't considered / doesn't care about the impact on her younger sister, and to a much lesser extent us and eventually birth mum. Plus it isn't nearly such a sensible name as Geoff
