Hello, We are going on holiday and my son is taking a friend (he is over 18 and adopted). Do you know what the restrictions are? or are they any forms we have to fill out? His adopted parents aren't being very helpful.
One minute they are saying they have to ask children's services, then adult services, then transition worker. They have agreed to us taking him, and now are asking for various information, which seems odd to us. Any information would be great. Thank you

If he's 18 then he's an adult so there are no restrictions. I can't see how his parents adoptive or otherwise could stop him.
Unless he doesn't have a passport?
Or are there some additional needs? If he has social workers involved in his life he will know who they are.

You mention a transition worker - do you know why?

I'm a bit puzzled to be honest about what the issue is.

To be honest I don't understand the issues. Yes the 18 year old has a passport and I've taken him on holiday in the UK before. His parents have been coming up with every reason to make this as awkward as possible. now mentioning DBS checks. I don't know what a transition worker does, as the boy way adopted very young.

I wondered if he had moved out into adult social care or similar. If he is 18 there is zero issue unless he is under some kind of official care.

Hello, No he is not. I'm not sure why they need details of when i moved and all my personal details. They even saying I now need a DBS before taking him

Who is asking for the information?

Jellycatspyjamas · 23/03/2025 21:30

He’s 18, assuming he has capacity - ie no significant learning difficulties - he can chose to go if he wants. There’s no need for a DBS given he’s over 18. I’d be trying to find out what the barrier is from the parents point of view if possible.

Arran2024 · 23/03/2025 22:19

In your first post it sounded like he was under children's services and has a transition worker for adult services. I suspect he has higher needs than you are aware of. He must have some kind of social care provision.
