Pooing in pants

Little one has just turned 4. He has been with us since he was 11 months old and has been potty trained for well over a year.

In the past few weeks he has had a series of incidents when he has pooed in his pants almost once a day. He has managed to poo and wee in the toilet as well and seems to be medically fit and well, but it's happened too regularly for it to be considered a one-off.

It does seem to have coincided with the start of some particulalry stubborn behaviour, as well as starting to express worries about starting school in September. My guess is that these could be linked. Any thoughts? Any ideas on how to approach the pants pooing?

My DD is nearly 4,see my thread back here on the same thing,it felt phycological and she was doing it up to 11 times a day on stressful times like when visitors came or Christmas for example.but she has now done her poos correctly for 4 days now and it does feel like she's turned a corner with it.we tried no make it not a big issue (although I found that hard!) And consistent that poos belong in the toilet.we used the pooland app video while on the toilet abit to start with. And have been consistent and insistent that she sits on the toilet every morning to get all her poo out first so she doesn't have to worry about it all day.this has worked well for her,she hates it but is accepting it and will watch a bluey or something while waiting for the poos.probably different for you, alot if it for ours was that she struggles to sit still I think, but I was really stressed with it for ages, hopefully it will pass for you soon once the stresses go?maybe go into pull-ups for abit to take some of the the stress out of it?

Constipation can sometimes present as soiling - it did for my LO. Even if tgey are managing to go on the toilet it can be overflow rather than a proper bowel movement. Check the ERIC website for lots of fantastic information on this and what to do. There is also a hugely informative and helpful Facebook group called Movicol Mummies which will give fantastic advice. I was told for yearsit was behavioural until I spoke to an ERIC nurse who sorted everything for us. If you do feel it could be constipation but don't know next steps please PM. Unfortunately alot of GPs don't treat usinh ERIC guidlines. x

My DD is 3 so slightly smaller - but took ages to get poos right and it was only when we started movicol that she managed to do a poo. We missed it for two days as we were lazy and forgot, she had a n accident, so we went back on and she hasn’t had an accident since.

there is a big chance what you’re talking about is not medical, however it might be and it’s best to rule it out first!
