Adoption

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

Am I the only person out there to have adopted AND THEN had my own birth children?!

Just wondering if there are any more people out there in our situation? We adopted DD at the age of 3 and she has been with us nearly five years now. We know some other adoptive parents, though no-one very closely and have met plenty who have had birth children and adopted later. We however have had two birth children SINCE adopting and I have not ever met anyone in this position but would love to hear from anyone.

My former neighbour's friend had 2 adopted boys aged about 8 and 10, then had a little girl when she thought it was the menopause... She was glad the baby was a girl, she felt the boys accepted a 'different' baby better.

Our DS1 is adopted - he's 5 years old now and we adopted him when he was 9 months old. After many years of childnessness, we chose adoption as a "first resort" over fertility treatment at that time, for various reasons, and then went on to have DS2 via IVF 2 years ago, with DC3, also IVF, expected in July!

no that happened to my birth brother- we were both adopted to different families. his adoptive parents then went on to have a birth son. they are like chalk and cheese whereas he is v similar to me!

"I think that a lot of fertility problems right themselves when the stress of ttc is completely removed" - that isn't actually true (at least the "a lot" bit) depending on which statistics you beleive as I don't think any proper researc h has been done, about 5% of parents who had previously tried fertility treatement prior to adoption subsequently get pregnant. I think the figure is higher in the US where more people intend to adopt at some point anyway so are less likely to go through invasive treatments

It is one of those things that is trotted out to you when ttc though.

Lordy isn;t it just! I started replying well I'll be calling the baby Jesus then because I'm not actually having sex with anyone at the moment. Too much information always persudes people to be sparing with their helpful comments I find

I knew 2 ttc couples who succeeded when their cats died. I wonder if there are stats for that?

Sorry about this rude message as my oldest daughter Zoe did this and I am very embarressed for it to be seen on my account. It is a family disgrace what Zoe did and I am very sorry fellow mumsnetters for this to be seen.

OrmIrian · 27/03/2008 14:32

Nope. My godmother did it. Ended up with 2 boys - one adopted and one (unexpectedly) home-made.

Sorry that was to clarrisemumof 3. She is on several threads today just obviously out to cause trouble.

What a sad and bored life to lead.

MinesALemsip · 27/03/2008 14:49
