My friend will soon adopt a baby with her husband and I wanted to get them a present. Would the book Bye Bye Baby be OK? Any other suggestions for nice things to get?

Thanks!

I wouldnt get the book bye bye baby. There's a nice book called I've loved you since forever,or a Nancy tillman like it's time to sleep, something nice like that?

hi,

its lovely that you want to acknowledge your friends new arrival with a gift, many people don’t bother.
I wouldnt get something so adoption specific, how parents choose to talk to their children about their adoption is quite personal.
a book is a great idea though, this time of year there are so many beautiful editions of books around, I’d stick with the children’s classics.
Even though my son did not come home till he was 8, we have a collection of treasured books - Thomas the Tank, Winnie the Poo, Paddington, etc that are carefully put away for his children

The Nancy Tillman books are lovely. Paddington is great- introduces adoption without being in your face. The best gifts were those that were gifts you'd buy anyone with a new baby- new baby helium balloons, a breakfast set. The little celebration gifts our children missed out on earlier.

I'd avoid anything adoption specific at this stage. Adoption will be in their faces all the time. Let them be new parents- a "welcome baby!" balloon was much appreciated here, even though the "baby" was walking!

I'd just get baby stuff suitable for the age or a bit older.

This kind of book is very personal.

There was a post very similar here not long ago and the one gift that made me cry like a big massive baby was someone gave the mum flowers because "every new mum needs flowers" x

A lady I hardly knew gave me tiny hand knitted cardigans when LO arrived here. She told me she had, "spent ages picking the right wool and buttons." It was the loveliest gift but her comment mattered more. It was so thoughtful x
