Yesterday we took my young man to university.
He has a lovely room in a nice flat in halls on campus. He is ready and is going to have an amazing time. Im so proud of him
But I feel like I’ve lost my right arm

I’m glad you’ve posted @Ted27 as I’ve been dipping in and out of the Higher Education threads and wondering when your big boy was off to uni! Many, many congratulations to son and mum. 🎉 What an impressive milestone in your journey together as a family. It’s also lovely that you miss him so - personally speaking, I think I will be decking my entire street with celebratory bunting the nano-second DD1 leaves home for an independent life! 😅 But we are currently in a very challenging period (15!!!)

I hope your boy will be home with a bag of dirty washing very soon.

@BrontëParsonage

Haha I haven't done his washing since he was 14 and don't intend to start now !

I will miss seeing his lovely smile every day and the cup of tea he makes me before he goes to bed

@Ted27 I think your DS could give my DD1 a masterclass in how to be an independent young person.

He's come such a long way from when he first came home to you - and obviously still has far he wants to go!

An amazing achievement for you both.

I can only imagine, I know you also have your hands full with your new young person - can you carve out space for yourself?

Congratulations. Here's hoping he stays in touch with you more than I did with my parents during my first term of uni.

@Jellycatspyjamas The school day is pretty much my own, though do have various meetings and training etc to do.
but most days I will be able to get to the gym and the allotment for a couple of hours. Ive just started a yoga class and have a friday breakfast with friends.

@ifchocolatewerecelery I remember qeueing for the phone when I was at uni so only called home once a week. Whatsapp makes it much easier to keep in touch. Im sure we will do a goodnight text if nothing else and have a running commentary during Liverpool football matches.

He is only an hour away, with Birmingham in the middle so we can meet for a quick lunch if we want to, so he wont have to come home.

Congratulations!

Think of it as reaching the next level- parenting an adult! It's a nice adjustment, but I'm so happy for you getting there.

I'm like a PP, and stuck in the challenging years. I dream of your day! But also understand the loss.

He'll be back.

Congratulations, your young man is awsome and so are you! I am glad you have your foster child to keep you company - and keeping you busy, I am sure.
