Adopting and pregnancy

So we’re in a difficult situation now, in the process of adopting a 1 year old and I seem to have just fallen pregnant. It’s a complete shock and can’t believe it’s happened now. We have been approved for well over a year with no prospects up until now. And also didn’t think there’d be any chance of getting pregnant.
I’m assuming if I break the news to our agency, they’ll put an immediate stop to our adoption. Any experience of this?

@Emeraldgreens

Hi
Firstly congratulations

I have come across one or two people on forums who had something similar, although the child had been placed- but before adoption order. They continued with the pregnancy and the child stayed with them.
You obviously have to be honest with your SW.
But I would also think long and hard about the practicalities for you.
Would you want to be pregnant whilst settling in a newly placed child. Would you want two children so close in age.
You would need to look into how adoption leave followed by a maternity leave would work. All sorts of practical considerations.
I'm just posing these as questions, not an indicator of what I would do or what I think you should do.
Good luck - not an easy place to be in

Thanks @Ted27

Definitely want to be transparent with the SW. I think I know that will be the end of our adoption journey.
we don’t have a problem with having them both, but I don’t think that’s an opportunity we’ll be given. If it had happened a few months down the line when adopted child was with us, I know it would be a completely different story.

I’d be very surprised if they let you continue with the adoption process while pregnant - there are many reasons why it’s not a good idea for all concerned. Congratulations on your pregnancy though, what lovely news.
