Pupil Premium and Free School Meals

I have 3 adopted children that go to the same primary school. They are currently entitled to a free lunch and I pay breakfast club for the 3 of them. From September two of them are starting Y3 and are no longer to the free lunch.

I was wondering if adopted children are entitled to free school meals (or breakfasts) via the Pupil Premium grant that the school receives each year for each one of them, and if any adopters had managed to agree this with the school and how?

Thanks!

I don’t think so. DD’s school had her on a list for a whole host of extras such as free extra curricular activities, Easter eggs, sports kits, ict equipment etc but she wasn’t entitled to it as she got a different type of pupil premium for adopted children. They have never said what they spend it on and have evaded the question when I asked, she certainly doesn’t get any benefit from it.

eligibilty for free school meals is dependent on whether you are in receipt of certain benefits.
pupil premium is intended for educational purposes. I would think it unlikely you would get them to use it for school lunches.

In England all primary school children under (7?) are automatically entitled to a free lunch, after that you need to be on specific benefits in order to claim - the same benefits also entitle you to a grant towards the cost of uniforms.

In Wales, they are in the process of bringing in free lunches for all primary aged children starting with foundation phase in September.

In our school, meals cannot be funded by PP+.
