I'm not an adopter or adopted and I don't know anything about any of the issues discussed on this board, but I've been reading it a bit recently and maybe wondering. I have one dc and am hopefully pregnant again so if I did adopt in future it wouldn't be for a while. But I'm interested in everything I'm reading and on the recommendation of one of the boards I read the "boy who was raised as a dog" book yesterday which was fascinating. I studied psychology many moons ago.

Anyway, I remembered research I did in my first pregnant on the importance of choline, and I had also read some info about how choline can help with FASD. I tend to go down rabbit warrens.

Anyway - for those adopting younger children who may have been at risk i thought you might be interested in some of the research and it might prompt you to look into it further and see if it might be of some benefit to your young dc.

Sorry if this is well known info already. Also it is not my intention to suggest there is a magic solution here to the very real difficulties you and your dc might be facing. Just though every little helps. https://jneurodevdisorders.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s11689-020-09312-7

Our early double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled pilot study established relative safety and tolerability of choline in 20 children with FASD 299]. A subsequent trial by our group including 40 additional children revealed beneficial effects for hippocampus-mediated sequential delayed memory in young (ages 2–3) but not older (ages 3–5) participants with PAE 300]. Another trial of choline in children with PAE who were 5 to 10 years old did not find beneficial effects on cognitive functioning compared to placebo, suggesting that a sensitive or critical period for choline effects on cognition occurs relatively early in postnatal life.

That is really interesting, it is good to see that interventions are under research.

It sounds like early intervention is key with choline.
