Life story board book?

LO's SW has put a lot of effort into making a lovely life story book for LO, but it is very long and very wordy. It will be great for when he's 7 or 8 but he's currently only 19 months!

I would like to make a simplified version to use alongside it in the meantime, and as LO has a tendency to be rough with books at the moment I thought a board book would be best. Any suggestions for websites I could do this on?

Got my little ones his from Photobox. They seemed to be the only site I could find that do a true board book.

Works good for the simplified version of his story.

mixbook.com is great. Very pretty designs and great quality. Not cheap though.

I made two life story books in boardbook quality for my kids when they were 10 years old, just so that they would last for a long time. Years on, they still look great, despite being looked at quite often.

I'm currently reworking my son's LSB to make it more suitable for his current age. Just wondering from adopters that had stuff professionally printed, how did you feel about sending the document off for this? I'm considering getting the book printed but I'm also wondering whether it's risking my son's confidential information! I know it's probably a small risk but even so it's still a consideration! Is it still worth it to have a better quality book than a few pages in a ring binder printed at home?!

@Jacketpandbeans I had mine done by mixbook. I can't imagine that anyone working for that kind of company would have the time/inclination to read through the book. They have stickers you can add to pages related to adoption so I assume that it must make up a significant portion of their work to add them in.

The only issue I have with mine is that I can't add to it without getting it reprinted unlike yours. So I'm unsure what to do as stuff has happened in the years since that otherwise I would add.

@ifchocolatewerrcelery Thanks for the mixbook recommendation. I've just had a look at their website and I understand what you mean about lack of time for staff to read through. Their priority will be getting it printed! It's nice to see they have an adoption category too, even if it's the American version!

As to adding additional info, at the moment I plan to do a book for the age my son is now and a more detailed one for when he's about 8 or 9 and maybe again when he's 12. That will mean reprinting though.

@Jacketpandbeans whoever you decide to use, don't rush to buy it. Get the book done and wait to see what money off offers they send you. I use them to make a photo album every year and it's worth waiting for the offers as depending on the size of the book you can save quite substantially.

We got one from Bags of Love. It’s sort of furry to touch (hard to explain but the picture are printed on a sort of felt stuck onto cars) so it’s ideal for young kids.

PoppityPop · 25/09/2021 20:16

*stuck onto card - no cars involved!

@ifchocolatewerrcelery Great tip, thanks!

I made ds over eight years ago now but I made a scrapbook of our family photos and I actually cut out our dog’s face to put on each page along with speech bubbles like she was telling the story of the family. The social worker’s loved it and said it was so cute
